I personally do not like a tilt helm in a high speed boat. I like the helm tight and responsive!!.....but that is JMPO!

And if you don't need the tilt helm, this is a Hardin Marine helm assembly with quick-disconnect wheel and dual blinker trim.

I personally like the non-tilt, quick-disconnect setup better. My 30 doesn't require keys, so I feel very secure when I'm docked places and I take the steering wheel with me. It also makes it easy to access under the dash if you need to get at anything by just removing the wheel completely. There is also some minor slop in the tilt helm, which the fixed does not have. Mike Mays at CP Performance (Hardin Marine, N Control, etc.) provided all the helm parts for my 30 - Steve Zieger provided the actual Char Lynn helm for it (Rik at Arneson uses Zieger steering systems exclusively).

Those are my shifts, notice there's no center console in my 30? My boat was built right after the 40' raceboat "Tomcat", which had that exact same setup. Pete knew I didn't want a centerconsole, so that's what he recommended. There's a detent for neutral, with pushed into the dash being forward, and pulled back being reverse. Takes some getting used to, but I wouldn't change a thing in the cockpit of my 30........

The helm in my 30 is the helm that Mike (owner of CP) sold me back in '04 when my 30 was being built (not certain if it's called hide-a-helm). I don't remember if I got the shift knob setup from Mike, or if Pete supplied them - but I'm quite certain Mike can get them for you (he just got me a trick fuel shutoff knob for my BA hydro). Email the pics of my dash to Mike (mike@cpperformance.com) and tell him you want the same helm and shift setup as mine (Dale Rayzor's 30), and I'm certain he can send you the same components that I have. He's also your guy for the N Control foot throttle/foot trim components.
