EFI is good for customers, I have no problem with carbs but also understand how they work.
I do love my EFI stuff.

The thing that makes me want to use carbs is I am not tied to a program. That and the cost up front.
I design and build my own carbs for my small nitro eng so have a good grasp on what is what.

Well setup carb motors run great, nice thing about EFI is it will compensate for temp and altitude changes from idle to WOT.

just got back from Back Bay running it with the electric fuel pump. no spitting or sputtering at idle. starts right up now on the first or second key turn every time. only issue is it lags about 2 seconds when i hit the throttle getting on plane then takes off. if i slowly push the throttle its a lot smoother.

Try hitting the primer as you take off if it improves you need to fatten up the idle jets.

Try the idle jets first but don't forget idle jets meter air not fuel. Smaller jet=richer or more fuel.

With the WH-28 carbs, try reducing the idle air jets to .048, it problably has .056 in it now, that should help the lean sneeze at idle and improve hole shot. you may need to try several different sizes to get it dialed in, but this should show you an improvement and give you an idea of where to go next.

Okay. this thread has gotten old but almost 9 months later and still haven't figured this thing out. Motor still loads up on take off and smokes then goes no problem. Still spits at idle. Hard to start sometimes like its flooded and burns fuel like no other. I went down in Main jets to .076 and .078 helped some. Im contemplating trying to put an EFI setup on it. It was originally an EFI to start with. Ive gotta 200 Mariner EFI setup. Would this convert easily? I guess just bolt it on and go?

Did you ever drill the block and put the bleed line nipples in at the cylinders? You need to remove the fuel that pools in the intake at idle, which is done by these bleed lines. In the EFI set up, the fuel is returned to the VST.
You can use the EFI setup from the 200 Mariner, but you will need to get a 225 Promax ECU or a Brucato ECU with the promax map. It will all bolt right up, but I would have the injectors sent to Brucato and flowed first (they in NC and you get them back within a week) and check the pressure regulator.

No i never did. I wasnt 100% sure where to drill into. I looked at the diagram but didnt wanna tear something up i couldnt fix. Looks like theres already 3 nipples on each side of the block where the reeds are. They all have a yellow plug over them. Im guessing the ones i would drill go into the crank case behind the cylinders? I looked online trying to find some pictures but cant really find anything with an explanation.
