Mercury 200 Black Max with 26p Trophy Plus (max rpm is within spec?)

I have a 1981 Black Max with a 26p Trophy Plus prop and my max revs trimmed out is about 5500/5600 rpm. Is this inline with engine specs or should I be propping down in pitch to raise the revs?

boat is a 19' Jcraft, flat bottom and weight is about 1000lb with a passenger in the boat

I run over 6k with mine but I have changed out my reeds, if you don't at rpms over 6k they are known to crack and chip and cause engine damage, noticed a difference in starting and idling with aftermarket reeds.

I will have to try out a 24p prop for comparison... I have some new misfire and bogging issues now... off to the shop to get it checked out... hope its nothing serious. struggles to accelerate and won't rev out... getting spark, plugs not fouled and new stator and trigger.

So I worked out some engine gremlins... I believe I am looking for a 21-22p prop based on my WOT currently with a 26p.

I am spinning at 5200-5300 rpm trimmed out. Think my previous measurement of WOT was off as my electrical system was wonky. As such I need to increase rpm's about 400-500 to be in the max "safe" range if not mistaken.

Thinking I need to try a Laser II, Raker, Trophy Plus? I need good hole shot for skiing but also want some top speed.

The Trophy Plus I have now has great hole shot, little bow lift but is hard to turn at speed when trimmed out.

Unless you forgot to raise the anchor I'd say you still have issues, the motor is either sick or the tach is off. It should be able to rev upper 5000's on a 1000 lb hull with a 26.

All brand new gauges installed by a Mercury dealer. Speedo is only going to 62 mph or so

Compression is 140-145 across the board. New rebuilt carbs last year, new stator, plugs etc.

    What am I missing

Do I need to trim higher? The prop is throwing a slight rooster so I assume the prop is at the surface. video.. hopefully this works. https://www.facebook.com/benbodor/vi...3335209938735/

I'd want to link and sync to make sure it has enough timing at WOT, should be about 22°

What do you mean by link and sync? How can I check timing? can you direct me to a post on this? I tried searching with no luck

A Trophy or a Tempest should have more lift than a Laser. Flat Out is the man for setting up J crafts. I will PM you his name and number.

You'll need a service manual for the procedure. It's called timing and synchronization.

Hmm I will take that info to my mechanic

Wouldn't timing effect all speeds? This thing pulls like a bat outta hell from a stop and in the mid range

Anyone have a 22p trophy large hub to sell or trade?

I am super happy with hold shot and mid range but the engine does not rev out to max Wot.
