Johnson 175 faststrike vs johnson 225 ho fuel economy
Thinking of repowering my 175 fs to a 225 ho. How much if any more fuel will the 225 use over the 175?

I'd guess lots more fuel. I went from a 150 to a 225 PM and the big motor really likes fuel. Fun though.

For reference, I ran a couple of times with my brother when I had the 150 on a Virage and he had his 18 Charger/200 Johnson. The 200 ran a lot more gas.
Just do it, the power is worth it, but it will burn more fuel. A lot more.

I have had various experiences with going to bigger motors, I tend to overpower my boats anyway. It really depends on the boat. If the boat is a little underpowered you can go up to the bigger motor and not really see much difference, but if the 175 is handling your boat well you will notice some higher fuel usage but you do not have to run wide open, you should be able to find a good economical cruising speed with the 225. theoretically you should be able to do the same speed as your 175 cruised at with the 225 and get about the same fuel mileage. I mean a 225 should burn about the same fuel at say 140 HP as the 175 would producing the same HP. I understand that a bigger motor will not be quite as efficient but the difference should not be huge. but like I said I have had a wide variety of different MPG from going with more/less HP. sometimes its a big difference, sometimes it is not. one situation I actually got better MPG with a bigger motor. I love messing around with boats, I use to swap motors around a lot just to see how it would run on a certain boat. different props can make a big difference also.

This boat is already over powered with the 175, so Im having second thoughts on put the 225 on it now. Then again I love speed.
