Removing black boxes idle stabilizers........I wonder if the shop did it wrong...
Does anyone have the complete procced as well as what needs to be done with the wiring... The three bullet connectors in the back to they just hang out or does anything need to be grounded????
What is recommedned static Timing for regular fuel setting?
What is recommended static timing for running 91?
Boat is sick help greatly appreciated.
The technician in my area is strictly by the book says he typically does not remove them. Said Mercury calls for the timing to be set at 20/21 and I know many run as much as 25 here..I thought I remeber something needing grounded for it to work properly..
Boat is back as it was not running correctly and leaking a lot of fuel.
So far I need to find out if he put the jumper on the switch boxes and if the grey white wire was grounded.
What damage could be done if this wasn't done properly???

Unfortuatly I am not I dropped it back off and this is where he told me he doesn't removed the black boxes very often. He then also proceeded to tell me he set static timing to 20 degrees per the Mercury specifications and not the 23 degrees as I requested....
There is an obvious fuel leak but hopefully I didn't burn melt any pistons or let the magic spoke out of any of the electronics in the 20 minutes I ran the boat before if stopped starting.
The fuel leak is a whole other issue as he just swapped my injectors to freshly cleaned ones.........and now it is leaking fuel to the point it stopped running.

Yeah I am a bit frustrated, I dropped it off with an intermittent issue of it not having full power so my plan was:
New stator
new trigger
clean set of injectors
use my spare ecu
ditch the modules
new wires to battery
new plug wires
Should run like a champ
I end up being stranded after 20 minutes of running. When I get back they do a spark test, and its fine, I pull the plugs, no metal, they do some fuel test and I have 40 lbs of pressure but it leaks down immediately. After a few test, there is fuel running down in the pan and out the foot.
I typically run 87 and Aces and am propped for 6500 rpms. 25P prop, 1400 lb boat but I like to ski, should I stick with 22 instead of 23 degrees?

The timing is set higher when the boxes are removed, since the lower timing spec assumes the box is going to release the additional few degrees of timing advance under the right conditions.

Well I was able to get him on the phone today.
The bias jumper was installed but he did not ground the grey/white stripe wire that was formerly attached to the advance module, that through searching seems to be important.
If it is an injector oring that is the source of the leak he will not be charging he says. IF this is the case would if dump enough fuel to not allow the motor to start?Last edited by xb03fs; 05-04-2015 at 12:37 PM.

If the o ring is cut on installation or just mangled or bad it will spray fuel inside the plenum dropping the pressure to squat and/or flooding the motor with fuel through the butterflies. Gas running out of the air box etc.

So really the only important aspect is adding the new jumper wire where the wires were removed along with the normal jumper? Just trying as I want to double check the work before I fire it up...
Actually he said my motor is further from stock than he is comfortable with... yes in St. Louis we are limited to who will touch a modified motor and my 200 has very few mods.
