Hey Dave, sorry to hear your dry up your way. It's a crazy year for weather that's effecting everybody. Here in the states the West is bone dry & burning, Mid West is storm & tornado central and we hear on the East coast we're all building Ark's as this seems to be a vision of things to come............

Just a follow up to close out this thread:

Have made several trips to the lake between storms several times and I'm totally please with the boat now. It's probably just my imagination but it sure feels much more sturdy/solid. The "2 inch thick Coosa Board" I used for a new transom was probably over kill on thickness but as lite as it was the extra 1/2" in thickness wasn't a big deal and boat got all new hardware anyway. Coosa Board is a great product, although very pricey, but now the boat has a transom for for life.

One thing I'd like to pass along is, if your going to use Coosa Board, look at the panel (thickness wise) and you may notice (at least on mine) that one side is thicker than the other as sandwiched over the foam core. If this matters in your rigging, make sure you get the thicker side facing the way you'd like it to before the glassing begins.

Thanks all for tagging along on this journey, it's been an experience of a life time and would I do it again.....hell NO, well at least not at my age. Thanks for all your support during this transom project as I've learned quite a bit along the way.

Extra Special thanks to VW-NUT, who was guiding me with his experience & help as well in this project all the way through, great teacher and great friend too !!!!!!!

Your journey has inspired us all, Lol
Now we are all looking for bad spots on our Liberators, and I found one last night, pulled all my carpet and under the rear seat there is a spot 14x27 in the tunnel
I cut the top fibreglass and found pretty much what your picture looks like in the begining of this thread.
I will do more exploratiry surgery tonight so I know how much I need to cut out.
Your thread will be a great help, thanks for taking the time to educate us.

    Phil,
Sorry to hear you've also got that same boating disease: Transomitis, have faith it's totally curable. If I can be of any help along the way please don't hesitate to ask (except for me coming to help you.....
). Not saying I'll have an answer but at least yours is a duplicate scenario and issues should be exactly what I went through so chances are been there-done that too.

Best of luck my friend, let the cutting and itching begin....

I Keep going back to that fuel tank mod. That's so cool! Simple enough of an idea, great way to utilize the space, I really like that!

Tom, yeah it made the best use of available space......BUT, it now plays games with the fuel sender because of fuel draw from two different volumes. When there's fuel in the big tank gauge drops slowly (maybe slowly isn't the right word for a 300x's fuel consumption.....lol), but when your sucking fuel out of the sump, wow, that needle starts move'n. Get'n used to it though.

When I get a new sender or tank, I start out with the tank empty and with the gauge powered up, I put in 5 gals and note where the ga reads. Keep adding 5-10 gals at a time noting where the ga reads as you go. When my stream fuel ga says E, I know I still have 6 gals to get back to the ramp. Tank shape won't matter this way.

That's exactly what I'm doing right this very moment. Add 5 gal take a pic, add 5 more take a pick, and so on till full. Then study up on the pics till I'm used to it.
