    Tower of Power shopping

Looking to get 115 i6 in the coming weeks. Assuming I can source one, what should I be looking for?

I know to check the case oil and make sure it's not milky, but if the thing fires up, and idles well in gear, what else should I be looking for?

    Thanks.

I always check compression if possible. Inlines are Known for getting hot and cooking cylinders when impellers are not maintained and for not using good fuel

The last 1985-1988 115 was the latest design, with modern ADI electronics and internal trim. They put out pretty good power and are just a well rounded L6

The 1500's are of course the most powerful. Stay away from the 90's if you want to run fast....these are do not make much hp above 5000RPM

If you tell us an idea what your going to put the motor on and what you expect we could further guide you. Not knowing what its for makes it hard to predict your needs.

But as others stated. Compression, water in lower unit, spark,

Remember the decals will for the most part interchange around. So you can make them look how you want.

There was never a 6 carb inline 6 EXCEPT the T2 & T2X which were both race engines. The late 140 and latest 115's were essentially the same engine, with just the horsepower rating changed from gross to net.

I know a guy that has one for sale in Port Perry. It hasn't been advertised, but it's an older one with a distributor as far as I know.It came on V King he bought.Had it out running last week, but it's off the boat now.Pretty sure he's a member here so if you're interested you could shoot him a PM. He goes by BWC Racing.
If I knew it was going to last this long I would have taken better care of it.

If you want a top HP ADI motor, you will look for a 1400/140(crank rated hp) from 1978ish till 1982ish. Then the later 115 in 1982 ish till 1988 was prop shaft rated. Basically the 1400/140ADI and the late 115ADI were the same motor. And they both were similar to the old 1500 powerhead.

In 1985 they started making them with the new internal trim. 1988 was the last year.

So 1985-1988 115 are the best ones IMO. Good electronics, good porting, good trim system,

But they all are cool. So any inline 6 from 1970-1988 will be fine.
