    Mercury 200 20" 1986 A913699 -Requesting masters info

I know you guys know all on these, this one has got me curious enough to ask a few questions.I have a really clean barn find and yes,it was in a barn on a stand. For what its worth, this engine is umolested and still has injection and idle timming box.I have oiled it up and popped it off carbs dirty and all.Started easy, idled and sounded like it had alot of attitude.Im assuming its a 2.4..I am first wondering if this was a chrome bore engine.I am also wondering if the oil injection gear is steel or plastic.I know 40 50 to 1 helps life of engine but sucks if you idle long in my opinion.Im also wondering if this motor is half as vicious as it sounds. This motor has me thinking about picking up a old 13-14 foot checkmate or somthing, just seems like the right stuff for a little fun.thanks much.jeff g in orange city fl

After you get the carbs cleaned buy a kit to plug off the oil injection and premix at 50:1

Thanks much Eric,i know its the right thing to do.I have several i have the block off kits on them.I am curious if i have the metal gear though.I like the oil injection not because im lazy but because it varies the mix helping with a nice idle I feel is tough with black max.

set max at 22/23 unless ya index it... not really necessary with that motor.. set idle timin' on tha trailer (in tha water) in gear ta what ever you AND tha motor like...120 plus .. depends a lot on tha gauge....jmo

You're losing more low and mid range with the lower timing numbers. Not hurting anything, just leaving a little power on the table

I can see now after thinking that throttle continues after high end timming stop. This would dog my hole shot all the way up if im thinking right and would never peak possible rpms. This old 200 has me interested im going start with the bleeders and work out.Im also curious if opti 2.5 reeds will fit, look the right size and i bet work better,im going to check it out. Thanks again Erik and have a good week
