the Golden age of drag racing ,,,

saw this on MSN website, black and white photos from 1962, nice read. look at #22, one guy is smoking a cigarette wearing a fedora instead of a firesuit and bell helmet, how did we ever survive to this point ???

Great stuff Fun---- I had a 68 Javelin Gasser with a injected 402 AMC in 73-76. Always loved the multi engine rails! Yep those were the days and we did live thru them ( at least we who had some common sence and some luck! Gary

Yep, love the old drag racing. Read most of the books seen most of the movies.

Saw a news clip on TV yesterday that showed a news anchor driving a tiny, electric go cart, barely walking speed, and the idiot was wearing a helmet!

That's what our society has become.

    BTW, Javelin Gasser...., bad ass!
I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.

I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.

Gary I'm lookin for some pics of the javelin---- Called "Travelin Javelin"--- Problem is I think my ex may have ditched them! BTW she turned mid nines at 148 mph @3200 lbs ( C/Gas) Not close to the record then but we could hold our own. Learned to rebuild Super T10 trannies ( drove it clutchless except to launch) in my sleep!!!! Yep I was always broke (worked for the car) Gary

just went back and looked again in full screen, bias ply tires, M/H white wall slicks, and that one twin engined one with a common blower set up in front of the front engine ,,, "out of the box thinking" for sure.

Yup the top end got the oil first and two much of it so we ran a bypass line from the rear of the galley down to the rear main. After that we could spin her 8 grand with a Crane roller cam set up - ported heads and Hillborn injection. Whats funny is I remember that well but I can't tell ya what I did last week!!! Gary

...I used to work for Bertollet Dodge in Texas City during my early 70's high school years and remember the "outside the box" set ups that used to show up at the dragstrip in Dickinson. Those were the days when we would be able to take a HemiCuda off the used car side and race her!
Good times for sure is an understatement!!

More is commin back to mind...... Before I bought the Javelin body I bought a wrecked GREMLIN! Then I read an article in HotRod Mag that some of the Pro stock boys had done some wind tunnel testing on the Gremlin bodys and found they would be faster in reverse!!!!!!! Anyway that burst my Gremlin bubble and I dumped it. I already had the base AMC drivetrain out of a old G/F car... Thats right an old gas Funnycar That was called the"Rogue". Remember that AMC bodystyle? Now I am really datin myself! Gary
