I'm not sure which Charlyn, but I know the pumps run continuously. I put one in a 30ft Liberator with the IMCO power assist.

I would be carefully with running a verado pump on a single opti. With the 55 amp alternator it may not keep up with the draw and will give low voltage alarms. If u run mostly cruise and higher rpms u will be ok. Any long idling and u will see battery voltage drop down below 11v

The Verado alternator is 70A, and you can hear the engine drop from the load of the variable speed power steering pump. The Verado pump senses load, and speeds up, runs slower if not needed.

Hi Glen, According to the Seastar owners manual , Max current draw is 50 amps-- typical current draw is 3 amps. The wiring harness it comes with utilizes #10 wire. Hope this helps. My pump is a PA1315-2. Bob Cruse.

Excellent point and others have experienced this as an annoying problem.

A 300xs alternator lists at 60AMP and the Verado 300 list at 70AMP.. Is there that much of a difference?

I am running no music, etc.. Just a vessel view, one GPS Speedo and this pump.. I plan on using a lightweight lithium 1000CCA or better race car style battery.. Minimal idle but its unavoidable in some situations

Are there going to be any adverse affects of buying a high output alternator, buying a replacement alternator and having it rewound for higher output, etc?

I believe the IMCO power assist pump draws 66amps at peak.

Marty at Diamond Marine can probably order it for you, or call Tom at Latham like someone previously said. I was just there last week getting a leaky ram repaired. It's not cheap but I sat in Tom's office twice and had him explain the bleeding process to me, some info on the ram and my setup, talked one-on-one with the tech who repaired the ram, and the ladies in the office were pleasant too. Turn around time was like 2 days.

Glenn, My Verado pump uses a 50 AMP fuse which should be sized at least 125% of the full load (start-up) amp draw, which would be 40 amp maximum amp draw at START-UP. Running load will be a fraction of the 40 amp load. I know that I am running two Opti's, but I have limped back for approx. 30 minutes on one engine with the power steering running after an engine failure with NO issues at all! I think that you are safe with the Verado pump and one opti, just make sure that your batteries are topped off before your runs so that your alternator does not have to try to charge batteries and run the pump at the same time. David
