    Oil Injection

I have a 08 mercury 250 pro xs on my eliminator with the deck fill kit for the oil tank..does anyone suggest I ditch this oil tank and start mixing my own fuel so I know that my motor is safe at high speed and high rpm..? If so what would be easiest way ? My allison with 280 was built like that already so would like to do the same to eliminator if possible..pleas let me know what you guys think and easiest way to do it on these newer motors if possible..thank you for your time..

Just worried that by the time an alarm sounds it is too late and damage could already be done..leave alone because it's newer or how come because I've read some threads where people say ditch it but don't know if that's just for the older motors.thank you for your time again..

On the XS motors the oil never mixes with the fuel. It is injected thru the intake at the reed plate. Thus mixing oil in the fuel will not provide lubrication to the air compressor or the main and rod bearings. The oil system on XS motors is not gear driven like in the past.

The motor should/will go into guardian mode if the computer senses any problems. I would leave it alone. JMO

Okay, so while we are on this topic, what about an '88 200 Mariner? Leave it oil injected or convert to premix?

I have a '92 Mercury 200 which is similar to your motor. I run the OEM oil injection system and have never had any problems with it. I replaced the oil pump as a precaution when Diamond Marine rebuilt the powerhead with about 450 hours on it. I asked Marty about ditching it and he said that would only be required if I wanted to run over 6,500 RPMs. Apparently the stock pump and the plastic gear that drives it don't like to spin that fast.

I kind of like the "idiot proof" nature of the oil injection system. It's still possible to mess up mixing your own. Just my 2 cents though.

When the warning beeper goes off, stop.and find out why. I was running hard in rough water, launching off swells, and the beeper went off. Figured it was the oversensitive level alarm float, so we kept running. Actually, the crank gear had stripped. No oil means engine soon stops..,...but, yeah, Guardian on newer motors helps protect t us from ourselves.

Perfect reason to pre mix and older engine. When/if that plactic gear goes so does your oil. JMO

So it sounds like there's absolutely no way to mix the newer direct injection motors such as my 08 mercury 250 pro XS.????
