"9 pages" questions
Hey guys dose the "9 pages" omc mods apply to all crossflows 4-6 cylinder or just the 235 hp? Also I'm some what ignorant on what scalloping the piston dose?

Scalloping the pistons and cutting out the block improves airflow inside the block. The engine will make more hp at a higher rpm. See pics

How it looks on my V4:

Noticing you didn't remove the extra little bit of sleeve on the outer ports. The material left behind when the factory plunged the ports. Are you getting into any balance issues with the piston scraping one side with the scalloping . Heard a story one guy did it to a triple and expected gains and end up with the opposite. Wrecked the motor, went over kill and it lost big. I know it works in your situation, I guess a little work will get the results, alot maybe not?

Also notice the difference in the transfer ports in both pictures. squared in top pic, stock round in the bottom one

The factory started doing the 9 pages mod on the 83 big bore V6 235's. Called a "2.6" 1983-1985. No reason it can't be applied to other engines in the crossflow family. The 235 has "high ports." The ports are oversize, squared off for-improved flow. The blocks are cutout on the intake side to pass air/fuel easier, as are the pistons. High compression heads. Large 1 3/8" carbs with big main jets, rubber intake filler blocks. Bubble back exhaust. 160 cubic inches. High-ring high compression pistons. (are NLA.) Special (unique) high rpm exhaust tuner in the midsection. Special 6200 rpm rev limiter power pack-which many replaced with a second unlimited pack. Special gearset in the lower unit. Vented cowling for improved airflow.

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned but don't raise the v4 ports as high as the 9 pages as that design was for a v6. The v4 will have no bottom end torque with port timing that advanced.

lets assume the stock ignition on a V4 was replaced. you have a programmable ignition which you can crank in say up to 35 degrees advance off idle and smoothly retard it back down for upper rpm running. this could be used to make up bottom end torque. how high do you make the ports? V6 high? how much timing would you put in and take out? im going to be doing an ignition like this. it can even use TPS for a 3D advance map. so if your cruuzing and wack the throttle high tps will put in more timing. when rpm comes up timing will come back down.

Timing may help a small amount but it will not make up for an engine that has been over ported.

I agree with Fred and running to much timing at peak torque will make for an unhappy engine.
