I just bought a scanner made by rinda technologies. it is way cheaper then a ddt. I have hooked it up to my 300xs motors and it seems to have the same info and test features as the ddt.

mine is the mercruiser model listed in flatbaum's link. the only cable that I have is the one that works on my 300xs motors. I found it on ebay listed as new but opened box. it reads all the data on my motor. hours, rpm history and fault codes. cycles fuel and air injectors and test for electrical condtion. it will test fire coils also. reads tps and all other sensors.

if you go e-bay, the older scan tools won't do outboards unless the chip has been replaced...... Rinda updates those by sending you a chip that you have to open up the tool and replace. i forget how much the chip costs, i think it was around $150
