Hoss Triton I

Pretty sure all Hoss props have a serial number stamped in them. Does yours? Just wondering if it's a true Hoss Triton I or a triton1 cut done by someone else starting with who knows what.

It is a serialized triton.

Give Tim at Hoss a call with that serial number. Maybe he can shed some light on the props history.

Early ones were cast but had quality issues so they switched to welding for a few years. After a lot of work in the foundry they felt they had a much better alloy and went back to castings, this was further improved in recent years with a redesigned blade root area with more beef. The prop in this thread is probably over 10 years old and it's anybody's guess how many hours it's been surfaced.

All that being said, it's a bitch when that stuff happens, we've all been there but that's the game were in. You can plunk down a grand for a new Merc ET and just wait, because it's not if it's gonna sling a blade, it's when. It's inherent to our sport, all performance props throw blades, we generally lose 2 or 3 at my event every year.

None of this makes you feel any better, but may make it a little easier to take the next time, sorry (and I bet you'll never forget a spare prop again)

Wire247, other than aggravation did the run get settled back down in a civilized manner? Losing a blade while perched up on a screaming run can be very unpleasing ..

Sorry to hear of your mishap, Yes many have had this happen and its a bummer.

My first glance at your prop and I'm not sure it was an actual HOSS. Hoss blades have a slight leaning backward angle and they all are stamped some where as Triton or HPD, so maybe you had a modified old chopper. It looks very thin also like an old chopper. I tore an ear right off an OMC SRX once.

I have 2 HOSS props and even had one repitched by Tim and never a problem. With your power and weight I would suggest a HOSS HPD which has alittle more blade area and meat. My HOSS runs super smooth, overall lift is amazing and top end is awesome.

They are no good the blades fall off, I'll take that Triton 1 off your hands to save you the heartache

Has the prop ever had a new hub installed. Hoss propellers are heat treated for strength. Some prop shops will heat the hub to install a new rubber hub, this will take away the heat treat in the prop and throw a blade.

This is a good point. All HOSS props are custom made: Heat treated for strength, blue printed and balanced ,tightly cupped so as custom as any prop can be. Nothing you can do to improve on the prop.

All are also stamped so never a guess as to: "do I have a real one or not ?"

Does the barrel of that prop look notched out and thinner?i lost a tip of a blade on a true 28 et.slowed down over some large wakes and got back in it too quick and snapped the tip of the blade off.

Doesnt look like the barrels been thinned. Just looks like it snapped off clean at the base of the blade. I inspect my props before I go out for nut tightness and visible cracks and there was nothing weird before I went out. 10 minutes later I'm limping to shore.

We had a new in the box hoss 32 it broke within a half hour right after I bought a 37. If I knew that I would have never bought my new 37p hoss

Its a Hoss alright. Older model and it was/is stamped Triton on the barrel witht he serial number. Also stamped Allison. Its also my last Hoss. Ran great. No crabbing or steering torque. Its just poorly constructed. Wouldnt buy another thats for sure. Seriously, why would I buy another Hoss prop after this?
