No more Optimax?
Contemplating buying a new motor for restoration and dealer told me that Mercury Optimax's are no more after this year. Is that true? BTW, saw an Evinrude G2 and it is the most ugly looking thing I have ever seen. I would rather use an oar than have that on the back of my boat.

I think that the outboard industry has done more in the last 10-15 years cleaning up the engines than the car industry did in 40 years, time the EPA gave it a rest and just let fuel economy marketing do the rest.
( We just need to have bio degradable outboard oil as a BIA standard)Last edited by powerabout; 03-01-2015 at 03:02 PM.

That's what my buddy was told at the Miami show.
Good til '17 then they'll look at them but that is one of the concerns.
As to the G-2, They are after new blood and supposedly they like them. As in people that know nothing about O/B's and have no prejudices.
And for ugly motors...., I'll see you one and raise you a shrimp on a stick/VeradoI'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.
I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.

If the Verado is ugly, the G2 is Rosie O'donnell.
