If it's total BS then why was there a law suit over it?

Your first sentence is a joke also. You can't compare the US EPA to other countries, cause they don't play by the same rules. If your argument held any water whatsoever there wouldn't be pressure to shut down Nuclear power plants now would there? Everyone's an expert on the Internet I swear.....

I just wanna see what a pair of 400's will do on a cat!

They can get the weight of the 4 strokes down and hopefully will move in that direction at some point. Someone will if not Merc. The bass boat and repower market is still significant. When it comes to shedding weight I would think Yamaha, Honda and Suzuki would have the upper hand with their experience in MotoGP etc.

    I agree 100%
I remember a few years back working on my cbr1000 and pulling it apart I noticed a lot of the bolts were hollowed out,
Obviously they were looking to save weight and it worked... First thing I thought of was the boat, Hmmmm hollow
bolts, with Zerk fittings for us that run in salt water... INTERESTING....

I'm gonna go drill my head bolts now, and then test it see if its any faster, LMMFAO!!!

    What law suit was that?

Ok we will just compare Europe and the USA where 200xs's are legal as are all current Merc and BRP 2 stokes as well.

Our Yamahas just lighten up with time in salt water as they slowly disintegrate.

I know the thread is about mercury 400r and its weight which in no way will get any lighter for us performance boaters. Most wouldn't understand what im about to say and will not like but mercury verado 4cylinder @500lbs is the platform we will have to work with too get the horsepower that we want. Yes it's a 4cylinder but it's supercharged which is a big power adder to any 4stroke.

Not to get off subject, but I'm curious-since this is a race motor is the cowling light weight like the race motors of old? i.e. like ABS plastic instead of SMC? Are there any items slimmed down or eliminated for weight savings on a race motor compared to the other Verado motors?

No. They had emissions rights enough to make all the 280s they wanted. It was a business decision.

Yamaha SHO seem to have some promise. The same weight as an Optimax, 4.2 liters to compensate for the lose, have been quite reliable over the last 4-5 years. Solid mounts and lower unit mods are available as well as an adapter if you want to put a 1.62 merc sporty on it.

I am getting ready to retire my 2.5 200 in the near future and with family time outwieghting go fast by myself time I really am looking hard at the 4 strokes for the reliability aspect. It seems the superbender guy and hydrotec have them figured out....
