How fast are you going with an XB 2003 ?

Put 150 miles on the Allison this weekend doing the test and tune circuit. With 14 inches of setback and a 30 pitch Spinelli DR-4 at 1/4" under the pad I'm hitting 93 MPH. I dont believe I'm ever getting into positive or even neutral trim territory though and there MIGHT be a little more left in this mix of stuff . Boat gets real squirmy as it approaches neutral trim.

How high should it go for a starting point with sportmaster? Speed was 93 MPH at 6500 RPM . Solid 20 PSI water pressure at WOT.

Thermostats never opened with running temp around 120 in the 38 degree water.
I had the SVS disconnected yesterday as it was hanging open on deceleration and wouldnt drop below 3000 and could only get it up to 88 MPH with the same prop. Hooked up a return spring to the shutter bellcrank and it runs pretty good now. I've got the timing at 22 on most of the motor as #3 is a few degrees advanced. Plugs and pistons look good and just shy of 1200 EGT's both banks.

That's about the best I've gotten with mine, 30 Spinelli DR4 worked a little and pitched down some, somewhere around 6800-6900 rpm. I've also got a tall windshield and the troller on mine. 740ft elevation.

hah. This is after the morning run. Went back later in the afternoon and picked up another 1/2 MPH in still water. Without the SVS it was 88 MPH.

Nothing wrong with 93. Thats about right i would say. If you want faster time time and more time. Props, motor hight, wind, humility, Water, balls, and more time. haha Its going to be a special day and the right prop and setup with low fuel no breakfast and did I say balls to run over 95 with 225. Some have gone 95-97 but not many. 260 100+ with less regard for all the variables. At 93 with a 30 225 i would have to think you were at least neutral trim. Though spinelli props ive used are pretty stout of top enders that seem real efficient at high speeds a worked Chopper 30 for example and there are others i would use over a 30 spinelli if I wanted to reach even higher speeds. Props and motor hight are going to be what makes the difference. But... your increasing risk past 93 with a 225 on an 03 as your reaching max everything. Just saying. Its safer to try and get to 100 with more power than less.

This is what happens with a good prop and cooler weather. I bet if I actually set my boat up for big numbers and really tried, it'd probably be a little faster. I like being slow though.

Man, if I would have ever had a good prop like that when I had my 225X on the XB2003, it would have run more than 100 easily. With my bad props, the one's you ran, it would run 94....................lol

See, I've found the trick to it is keeping the up side up and the down side down.

On a somewhat serious note though, it's interesting how one boat and setup will love certain props and other props are just kinda blah. This spinelli is one of the few to get over 90 on my boat, but then again, I never really run it that hard. I'm gonna do some testing this spring though, I've got a really tall windshield on mine, gonna try a short one and see if there's any difference. Also thinking about putting a lip back on it. Mine doesn't have much. The biggest thing is it starts and goes every time, so I'm happy with that.
