Ok guys lets keep my thread on track first I don't care about the unicorn would it be cool to have one yes by the rules we cant run a merc 300 .
Back to the intent of the class cheap racing that's the idea in the big picture now do you need a merc 300 to have 300 no and if you have the skills and or the cash you can build a 3.0 225 that makes 300 or more yes that's a woolf in sheeps clothing do you need 300 hp to go 60 mph no and can you make a lets say a worked over Bridgeport get the job done yes.
The bottom line is build you boat to the best you can and go have some fun.
Lastly todd I agree about the small cats but I don't think the cat we are getting needs a 300 when a 200 ros or 225 ho evinrude ho will make them run over 100 mph if you look at adams twister its went over 120 mph with a 300 on it having a class with these kind of speeds in true offshore race conditions is a formula for bad things to happen if you were going to race them like a mod vp boat in calm conditions that would be different.

I agree to a certain extent. The reason I said 300 is so that anyone with a current 20'-23' older cat could race and be competitive. Trying to keep cost down. I understand that the newer argos and twisters can run 120 but most of the boats around aren't that exotic or lightweight..... if you created a weight handy capping system it wouldn't matter what hp someone had on their boat. Let say a 20' had to weigh 2000 lbs a 24' has to weight 2400lbs. Next pick a tunnel width. An older 40" wide skater could be the standard. Every inch over would be an extra 20 lbs so a 56" wide argo would have to weigh an extra 320lbs. Next you could do motor HP models. Let's say 200 hp is the standard. Make it an extra 50 lbs every 25 hp over. That would put a boat with a 300 engine weighing an extra 100lbs. This would mean no more 120 mph twisters

BTW I bet this 300 V8 On the back of my boat now would make 375 fairly easy if I let the boys get after it with all the good stuff..... But I was told NO 300 HP motors.. the rule is 250 MAX... and noone had bigger than a 250 0n there boat so there would be no grandfathered boats allowed in.
250HP From Factory max, 22' V Hull 60 MPH Max..... GPS Monitored.
Keep the Unicorn, Unless your unleashing the beast wont make a damn difference in a 60mph class

Rules last yr said 300HP Max. I bought my boat in the sig pic for pleasure, and maybe local races... But I'm bitten by the bug and want to race so now I'm selling my 300Evinrude thats on here and going with 250 because in AC Smitty and Mark had said they'd like parody in the class with everyone running same hp. There was a few guys with 250's already thats what I bought. Just sell the 300 shouldnt be hard. and we know youguys got outboards layin around

I never bought a engine, or boat.. so no need to sell anything. But I was going to, and might have even raced, but now the rules have changed

Personally I think a 150 is a perfect motor for the class. Should do right around 60 at wot. Not much time guys, weather breaking, grass getting green and water warming up. Safety equipment just as important as that motor so dont skimp.

Being totally serious for once I agree if all the boats weight were the same a 150 would be great wide open no bracket speed but not to fast to be a safety problem
