Allison GS questions?
Can an Allison Grand Sport, out accelerate an STV or HST Stream with say exact same motor, for comparison sake a 225 Pro Max. From Go to say 80 mph, since Tunnels not as fast out of hole but Allison less drag even when on top.
Thanks, JIM

It all comes down to weight. Most STV's are a 100-200 pounds lighter than your typical GS, and it wouldn't be an even match. Get the weights within 50 lbs or less... different story.

I have seen hydrostreams and HST are much closer in size to the Allison SS, the grandsport is much larger.....I think a SS would also have a much better chance keeping up or being faster as well. Not a racer so I cant comment on that. But apples to apples the SS is the boat to compare a hydrostream to.

just wondering. how fast the Grand Sport is considered, i realize SS would be a better match, but i am impressed with Grand Sport and wondering how they can take a wake at 90 mph if less than a foot. ? while "aired out" or is it like my Hydrostreams, you DO NOT want to do that? i am considering a GS.

Hands down stv as between the hst and the grandsport if both boats had fast trim i would say grand sport a lot of hst were heavy layups or water logged unless it was the the drag canopies Version but they were very rare

The gandspirt hull is very similar if not the same hull as my previous xb2003. Wakes and chop 1 foot or less are taken quite well when encountered head on or close to head on it are the ones from the side that can be difficult.
Not sure if even 12 inch chop is recommended are full wot, but it is manageable into the 80s running into the waves... Parellel to the waves is again more difficult.and I liked to stay below 70 in these situations...in the case of large cruiser, barge and wake board boat waves I preferred to slow down into the 20s and run up the swell and then down to avoid the hull pounding or stuffing

Unless your your very serious about drag racing the grand sport is a way better lake boat you can take up to 2' waves at 90 with no problem i have run 27 miles in the upper 80's to low 90's whipping the piss out of some supposed 100 mph offshore boats lol

Wow my balls are not big enough to find out how skipping along the peaks at those speeds feel. Generally I slow down noticeably once things reach over a foot not because the boat wont do it necessarily, but it gets hard to see the occasional rouge cruiser waves once it gets much rougher and I hate hitting those unexpectedly......Anything over 1 foot waves I generally down to the 55-65 range depending on the spacing of the waves and direction they are coming from just to be a safe driver.

The GrandSport could probably outrun the STV if both boats weighed the same and were loaded down with 4 large individuals. When I owned my GS the one thing that really stood out is that it carries weight very well. IMO it actually drives better when loaded down. Not as quick but you don't lose much top end....it's a very efficient hull even among the various Allisons when it comes to moving weight.
Other than that scenario, the STV is gonna be quicker and faster. Don't know anything about the HST's except that they look cool as hell.

All very good information, just take wakes head on, and yes want it for a lake boat, love the fact it carries weight well and does not lose much top speed even loaded, my HST did not take well, that good with its tunnel design, and lastly what are bat turns? wind takes nose left or right? thanks guys.

Bat turns are when the nose of the boat drops quickly for various reasons, and the boat spins VIOLENTLY, usually to the right. When the boat falls off the pad at high speeds, it drops, the boat bow steers and around you go. If you are fortunate, you may stay in the boat without hitting anything to hard causing injury. If you are less fortunate, you will be thrown out of the boat. If you are even less fortunate, you will be thrown out of the boat, hit the side of the boat on the way out, and the boat will wind up, upside down. The good news is, LOL, this will all happen so quickly, that you will have no time to think about which of the outcomes will be yours.

one Word, wow. is this similar to what my Hydrostream Vector would do? so its about bow angle of attack, going south quick? wow! nobody says how that can happen in Allisons? are we talking above a certain speed only? are they safer say below 85 or 90 mph? JIM

The GS is a much larger boat than a Vector, no not a real good comparison. The Allison has a hooked pad so it doesn't need to ride with as much angle on top end, but the hooked pad is also why if you chop the throttle you are more than likely to hook the boat.(bat turn)
