Drag race stock motors what accelerates faster?

    2.4 EFI Bridgeport
    2.5 EFI
    2.5 Pro Max 225
    2.5 Pro XS (say 250)

I hear so much about Pro XS but so expensive nobody runs em much on here, probably cause so dang heavy, wondering anyones thoughts on them? with hot high tech direct injection. I am sure a 175 Pro XS would whomp on a older 200 hp right? Say out of hole to 80 mph same boat, say a Valero Vee. Hydrostream. keep it simple. All use same prop say a Mazco 29, 30" Cleaver or 28 Lightning cut Chopper, all of which i have.

2.5 efi what? A 260 or 280 would win against the others without breaking a sweat.

well by 2.5 EFI i meant a 91 EFI with 260 hp, but maybe a Carb with 245 Hp is better test, what do guys call the 91-93 2.5's that replaced the Brideports? until Pro Max took over? i have factory brochures from Bridgeport and the 2.5 in 1991 and it was a similar motor? ran higher rpm's but is there another 260 vs the 91? very new to this motor, sometimes see them for sale, but always see guys say 260 or 280 powerheads, are there many of the 91-92 - 93 2.5 260 EFI's out there?
i would love one. Stronger than a Pro Max and light too! JIM

The 260 was the Bridgeport's replacement when they went to 2.5L. The 280 replaced the 260. Theyre going to smash all the others. The 5800 rpm motors aren't as useful for drag racing, since they need to be propped taller.

Here's mine with a 22 Yamaha making a short pass.

Saweet Video! so ok, the 260 EFI's replaced the Bridegports with sleeves this time and steel for more durability, and high redlines? i thought the Bridgeports were the screamers but i also have original 89 2.4 EFI and Carb Bridgeport brochure and they say 7.000 max. my brochure says 7,500 RPM on the 2.5 1991. when was the 280 made? for public? or race only? so a 2.5 1991 260 would smoke a 225 pro max or even a 250 pro xs since so heavy at over 500 lbs. ?

The 2.5 260 is a nic sleeve motor, not steel. A promax is steel sleeve. A well tuned 225 promax would smoke a 250 pro xs in a drag also, even more so on a lighter hull. The mercury DI system takes forever to accelerate in the few I've driven. Again, we're talking drag racing here. I wouldn't even consider an XS motor if we're talking drag racing....280 came out in 98.

Thanks, i have many guys say! get a Pro Max, easier said then done, i have a Bridgeport powerhead with two cracked bridges, but think everyone pointing me towards a pro max. what happens if Nikasil coating gets messed up? ring goes, injector fails, on the better 260? how or who fixes Nikasil in U.S. if done in Germany? i guess everyone says get a pro max for speed and reliability. I see 260 Powerheads on here often, they will bolt to my say 2.5 200 Midsection? with what exhuast mods? to fit? my motor is a 91. Or i was going to put my Bridge on my 1988 Mariner Mid so i can create sleepers. Fast, but not the fastest.

There are places in WI that can plate nik. blocks. I like the 2.5 245hp carb motor for a sleeper. IMO the 245 runs right with the 260 unless you are trying to spin over 9000 rpms. With the carb motor you don't have the charging issues that the 260 does. Also IMO if you try and put any of the mentioned hipo motors on a stock mid/exhaust its gonna hold the motor back.

Just to clarify, the Bridgeport is a nic motor as well.
Nikasil is perfectly fine as long as you replace the rings every 100 hours. It only becomes as issue when worn rings start to cut into the plating, or when a locating pin comes loose, or when the motor is overheated or under-lubricated. Take care of your Nik motor and keep it fresh, then its's not a problem.

Saweet Greg Thomson said my cylinders all look good and can re ring and HONE? them, but said two bridges cracked, how do they get at those to weld? I still am considering fixing my Bridge.
