    2005 Merc 150 Saltwater?/ Good motor???

totally out of my league here since it isnt an inline, but considering a boat with a nice clean 2005 saltwater 150 Merc on it. smart craft set up. Like to hear your comments good or bad. Motor is supposed to only have 300 hrs on it. Is there a way to connect an dread out th e hours?

    Thanks

It should be a 2.5L motor with exhaust reliefs. The 2.5L 150 is a very dependable motor. If it is a carb, I don't think you can get engine hours...but since you say it has smartcraft, it should be EFI and smartcraft should show engine hours. I would remove the oil injection if it has not already been done.

With smartcraft the first reading one gets when the key is turned is engine hours. It can be hooked up to a computer and a list of fault codes and hours run at rpm ranges can be taken off the ECU. Any merc dealer can do that for you. Be careful of any optimax with a lot of water in fuel faults, the injectors do not like water. ~$ 600 a pop.
    Good luck with the decision.
