I just picked-up a Allison Grandsport with a 225 that has one mounted. Our water is frozen up here, so no seat time with the boat. However, the previous owner liked it with the hole shot. Maybe he will chime in.

They do work ok for boats that run the lower unit deeper, or have a jack plate. There is a slight risk for cav plate breakage with them. Have one on my flats boat, like it.

I'm running a 17 Flats just wondering if they work seems positive so far. I have had a fin on a bass boat a few years back , didn't do much at all, it wasn't a bobs plate.

At speed it shouldnt be in the water on the types of boats we use here so it will only help holeshot until it surfaces.

My theory is they channel prop wash that'd otherwise be blown up around the 'cav' plate. And funnel it aft. If nothing else ...
We conducted a test while back & the Glastron was in fact, per gps, .1 mph faster without the true tracker. But it was a hell of a lot more controllable with.
In small light boats at least, I believe they improve holeshot & overall stability.
And it ain't like it's a high dollar bolt on.
I had my hole plugged ... Picked up .9 mph.'71 Glastron V153 - Composite rebuild - Unceremoniously wrecked

I did a back to back test with mine off then on within a couple of hours one day. i changed my impeller, you have to take it off to do that. So I thought i would test to make sure the temps stayed good after the install of the gaskets and impeller plus see what it was like without the plate since it had been years with only running the plate.. I hated the feeling without the plate couldn't wait to get it back on!! Back to shore threw the plate back on and did some more wot runs. Way better in every way!! The only difference were without was a little better in hard fast sharp turns. im talking turns that would have your passenger in your lap type. With the plate it want to hook you around. but you can feel this happening and can control it. without you just turn without thinking and was fine. hole shot way better with. Top speed more stable feeling to me anyway and 2mph lower plaining speed. At top speed the plate is out of the water but the spray is deflected down around the prop. Any time i can get more water near the prop i cant say its a bad thing. The hull felt lighter with. Thats my findings on my hull any way. Ill never run without it. Trim is more responsive with also. Hears a low quality clip were you can see it in action. Its an old camera i duct taped to a pole. i got a gopro for Christmas so Ill get better quality stuff out this summer. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ekfNgaKe_7o Probably around 90 mph most of the time as she would out.

I put a Bob's True Tracker on my 150 XR4/Virage many years ago. It completely transformed getting onto a plane with over hub props - from 5000 rpm and wait what felt like a minute wait, to just planing with no drama. Better for waterskiing with thru hub props. Best money I ever spent on that boat.
