FrankenMercury Need Help identifying what I got...
Ok so I picked up a bit of a rare bass boat, and it seems to be a pretty good looking hull that has potential to go fast as well as be a pretty good fishing platform. It has a 135 Mercury Black Max on it but when I picked it up the seller said, "I think somebody swapped the powerhead cause its pretty fast" - MAN! Why didn't you say that sooner, I would have bought it much quicker!!! Anyway, so here are the numbers I got off the motor and I am trying to figure out what I have.
Serial Number on the ID Plate (near the transom mounting brackets): 0A957475
Number on the Frost plug on the port side cylinder bank: 5904475
Starboard Heads: 1026-7261
Front of block below the flywheel: 95785
Port Side behind timing advance arm: 030281 (I assume this is the "born on" date)
Starboard Side below the circuit board: 65663
On the block between power packs and heads: 7914 or 7974
It is sitting in not very well lit garage, so I might not have captured all these numbers correct. I do have pictures of all of them that I can post, let me know which number you want to see, and I will throw it up here. Thanks in advance for any help somebody might be able to provide!

Yeah, very confusing. Everything external on the motor leads you to believe its a 135 (Cowling, etc) and 1986 was the first year Mercury did a Oil INjected 135, so that all fits with the serial number on the ID plate.
The guy I bought it from said it had a different power head on it and he was pretty sure it was more then 135 HP. So I Roadkill's assessment of a Early's 80's 150HP passes the common sense test (at least what the seller told me) that the power head was upgraded. I just don't know how Roadkill determined it 150HP???
I was just looking at the lower unit, it also is not original, it's an SEI (49291), so this thing truly is a FrankenMerc
