are they boat racing over there in the desert or engine racing?
Sounds like boats will need to be modded to suit the heavy things, OMC V8 will fit right back into the market as a lightweight alternative..lol

I was at the Fondulac Plant this week.
New production motors were coming down the Line while we were there.
Couldn't get them to tell us much, Other than you have to wait for Miami...
Amazing what goes into the design, production and assembly of these Motors.Formula 260ss 496HO

Jeff I should have gave you a call but I ran up there last minuet.
I was able to work with the Victory team on these engines at the race in Dubai and have a few details but nothing is set as they are still in the prototype stage.
The cowl is a cut 3.0 cowl just used for now. The mid is completely custom and will also have some changes it uses a 3.0 clamp now and the base pan is heavy aluminum. The gearcase is a 3.0 sporty machined to fit verado gears because the sporty gears wouldn't hold up to the torque of the verado.
For the race they were detuned to be close to the 280's the others were using but we all know there is more power available with the verado engine.
I was told it weighs about 150#'s more than the 15" 280 but I can see some weight savings in the production models.
Overall it ran good, there is still some calibrating to do to improve it as a race engine.Chet Olson

End of an era.
Oh well, here's hoping for a 4-cylinder racing product fit for lighter boats.

Hi,
My old Promax 300 did approx 290 hp. A Promax 300x did approx 315 hp. Adding Brucato SVS and recurved pcu upgraded the Promax 300 with approx 25 hp. My point is that the 350 sci is very strong through all its rpms and use approx half the fuel
The lower unit I use is the poseidon HD 5,4 inch version. Its standard for the 350 sci. Hopefully will it be possible to get an upgraded Sportsmaster soon
cheers Toffen

The one thing I haven't heard anyone mention in talking about this new 4 stroke engine is fuel economy. I was just talking to my buddy this morning that had a 275 Verado on his 22 Daytona and said it sucked the fuel down like an old 3.0. Said the best mpg he could get was around 4 down at 35mph, and if he was on it he'd only get about 2mpg. He switched to a 250XS and said he's burning half the fuel of the Verado, with just a slight decrease in performance. I can't imagine giving up the fuel economy of my XSs for the performance gains (whatever they may be 5-10mph?) of these new 4 strokes. It's going to be very interesting to see what these things end up really being!
