Theres definitely a balance that would have to be achieved and with the imports experience I think it would have to be one of them to really pull it off.

Mercury's 3.0L 150 2 stroke had been a big success, I am hoping they make a 4ish liter 200,225,250,300 4 stroke in the sub 500 lb range for us recreational boaters with a sporty of course.

4 stroke was not welcomed in motor cross because bigger heavier lunkier.... no two ways about it they rip though.
IF they could engineer a lighter mean 4 stroke that weighs in at 500/525 max weight... Why not.. I'd give one a rip. Lower rpms and a tad more torque..Hopefully get to same horsepower rating.. I sure would.

Mercury 4 strokes will be competative the same way Mercury has always been competative, its called adding weight to the competation. If you cant beat them make them add weight.

The engine that I was referring to - Yamaha V Max SHO - weighs 505 lbs. This is the same weight as Mercs 300 xs. Granted, the blower would add 20-30 lbs. Im guessing.Put this engine on 20 to 25ft boats and you wouldn't need twins that weigh 800lbs - plus steering etc.

Mercury leads, everyone else follows. 2 stroke or 4. Always been that way, will continue to be the same. Yammaha can't even come up with an original name for their motors. ie, v-max is like black max and opti max. SHO model name is a rip off from Ford sho/svt programs.

A twin turbo on the 3.0 150 4 stroke that weights less than 450 lbs would be cool....wonder if that could stay under 500 lbs with turbo/supercharger added...3.0 liter turbo would be cool and torquey

Probably pretty good considering the mild tuned Turbo Busa I have been running in a road course car for 11 years now starts pulling good at 1500, has more than 80% torque by 3700 and still has full torque at 10,500. I would see no issues with issues with one on a boat.
