When Mercury replaced my blown 300xs powerhead under warranty, they emailed me a satisfaction survey. I contained questions regarding purchasing other brands and why I would. I wrote that if a manufacturer would produce a high-horsepower/lightweight performance engine for performance boats, I would switch brands and purchase it. Let's see if "they" list and what they do!

Do you really think Mercury cares what you want for 10 or 15k when these come off the assembly line for 350,000

Unless the F1 rules changed since 2012, the motors aren't putting out 400hp. I spoke to Alex Hledin (builder of Alex Carella's 2012 World Championship winning motors) and he said he couldn't get 400hp out of the motors. Have the rules changed in the past two years that allowed more hp from the powerheads? I wasn't aware of any changes in years - they're still running the spec. computers that I know of.

Alex didn't have a thing to do with Carella's motors. That is Brendan Power.
On the other hand Alex did do the motor for Phillip Chiappe who won the world championships this year.
Before the spec box things were different. 400 is doable, and then some. Not to be a dick, but things have changes since 2012, and even before that 400 was broken.

****, you're right.........Alex built Sam Selio's motors in 2010 when he won the Championship (the years are getting away from me). That's the same year Alex built Shawn's motors and he won the Champ title here in the US. Anyway, I talked to Alex for a long time at Kankakee that year (2010) and he said that with the rules that were in place at the time, 400hp was not possible out of the F1 or Champ motors - that's why I asked if the rules had been changed. I haven't followed it that closely in the last couple years, but I didn't think the rules had really changed at all. They're still handing out spec. ECUs before each race, aren't they?
