    Merc V6 Switchboxes, any differences?

Hello, New to S&F and thought you guys might be able to shed some light on this. In the process of replacing switchboxes on a 200 2.5 Mercury and have noticed there are several box manufacturers (Mercury OEM, Sierra, CDI, Arieltek, possibly more.) Are there any differences as far as reliability or consistency? I have also noticed CDI offers a "Quick Strike" switchbox (114-7778R 2.) Any advantages to the Quick Strike box for a motor that runs under 7000? Thanks!

I like the Mallory ones,I think they are built in Germany.Around $100 each. They will run well over 8000 rpm

    Awesome, thanks, I'll try those.
I kinda bypassed those because I thought the clear potting looked kinda funny. A couple places have them listed as Mallory 9-25100 or Sierra 7778A12. I took a closer look at one and saw "PRUFREX" molded into the plastic terminal plate, which is indeed a large German auto/industrial ignition supplier. Thanks again.

Mallory and Sierra are made by the same people. Mallory no longer sells switch box's some stock still around but if can't find Mallory Sierra are fine.

IS it ok to run these with a mercury stator? Who would you recommend for trigger? Sorry to hijack but I have and electrical gremlin and am thinking of just changing git all since its an older motor.

I Have a mercury stator but still need to aquire switchboxes and trigger....

Sierra bought Mallory a couple of years ago. I use the Sierra pn# 18-5755 on V6s. They are made by Prufrex in Germany. IMO German engineering is second to none.

Just relaying this second had. I have been told that the Mallory boxes do not cooperate with the Brucato ACU very well.

Myron,I had two sets of Mallory boxes on a 200 Efi with an ACU,double fired on 3 and 4 only...no problem with Merc Ecu,but the Brucato box would flood on 1 set of injectors.Tony tested the ACU,said it was fine,I started changing things...note a couple things...
1 two sets of new Mallory boxes did the same thing.
2 could not see the double fire with a timing light or handy-tach.
3 stock Merc Ecu ran fine
4 motor ran fine with stock Merc boxes with the acu
5 Tony had not seen or heard of it before...and I've used literally hundreds of Mallory and Sierra boxes, and have done well with them
My observations...livel and learn, die and forget it all,Chris

That's funny....German engineering is usually regarded as great when it comes to everything EXCEPT electronics. Just ask anyone who has owned a german car for any period of time.

Truer words have never been spoken. Having owned Mercedes, Porsches, Audis and VW's I wouldn't touch their electronics with a ten foot pole. Only thing worse is English ANYTHING and Italian of course but that goes without saying. If they were Japanese I'd be all over them.

ENGLISH electrics. Back in the dark ages I had 2 MG Midgets and a Healey 3000. Lucas electrics. Lucas was known as "The Prince of Darkness". That's why I referred to the "dark ages".
