Fox body Mustangs???
Been toying with the idea of getting one to play with for many years and w/the great roads in our new area, I may get serious about it.
They are pretty damn good bang for the buck.
If you shop, you can find them with a bunch of go fast goodies already installed but at the same price as a clean stocker.
I know the basics but wondering Pro's Vs Cons of the various yrs. I know they made carb'd and EFI and I guess I'm open to either.
I'd like a manual to bang gears with but I remember reading they are horsepower limited and thinking similar for the rear ends.
Figure I can get one down to 3K lbs fairly easily and with 400ish HP's that puts me at 7.5 lbs per so w/good gears/tires, should be a hoot to slide around corners and take to the track once in a while.
Any first hand knowledge would be greatly appreciated.I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.
I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.

There are plenty of suppliers that build stuff for fox bodies check out Modified Mustangs and Fast Fords magazine.

Get a SN95....1994/1995
Here are the pros and cons.
1994-1995
Still have the 5.0L pushrod Cobra's have gt40 heads and intake 240hp
4 wheel disc brakes ABS
Better interior comfort/quality build
Car is slightly heavy than a fox but much nicer overall and you can always supercharge it and make 400+hp to the wheels

fox body mustangs can be found everywhere & make great hotrods. i like going to the dragstrip & watching them launch hard. can be a fun car to have & work on. i owned an 87 5.0 lx bought new , only had 225 hp, but was a blast to drive .lots of performance parts & upgrades available, a fellow co worker recently bought one with new block ,race ready for $5000.runs 11 's .

Thanks for the info guys.
Mr Hurst, will do and thanks for the tip. I've seen all the aftermarket suppliers. I think the Fox body cars were the next era hot rod after the 1st era Camaro's.
Mariom, sorry, Fox bodies only.
Gary, very cool. I'm finding lots of clean stockers, and I'd buy one but I'd rather get one that previous owner ('s) already bought/installed all the go fast goodies.
jp, I knew that and agreed. Been watching a couple of them.
We live in an area surrounded by well paved, winding, hilly roads. Been looking at RX7's, MG's, Miata's etc but figure a stang would be as much fun in a 4 wheel drift (plus the sound) and way more fun in a straight line.
Will end up w/a classic bike by Spring as well, if not sooner.
It rocks having a real shop for the first time in 10+ yrs!I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.

Its funny when I was growing up nobody wanted a mustang with a trunk. They were a dime a dozen. Everyone wanted the GTs with the side skirts. Now it seems the GTs are everywhere and the notches are harder to find. Times change I guess.

I'm going to build one with an LS in it. Probably a big shot of nitrous the first year and then twin turbos once I get all the plumbing figured out. I'm looking for a notch or a late 90's car.

Appears to be a fairly common conversion. If do the Stang I will stick w/Ford though as I'm not after that level.
I do REALLY like the LS platform but not the available, GM bolt in cars.
I did find a really clean notch down here though. Still not sure if the -200lbs is worth giving up the hatch style though.
#2 on my list would be a WS-6 Trans Am and is actually #1 but would cost twice what a clean 5.0 goes for.
Am having fun shopping though and has been 10 yrs since I could afford to and had the place to do it.I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.

My wife wants a yellow WS6 and they are stupid expensive as they were very low production numbers.

Agreed. Neighbor had one and I thought was one of the prettiest cars GM ever built. I think a clean one would treat you well on resale
Love the lines.
A clean straight one around here starts at about $10K.

Or:
Probably has his asking price in bolt on's and one of the turn on's to these cars.

Problem is I want a low mile 6spd car w/o t-tops and there were like 500 built in 2002.... Cost nearly 25k but you're right, 20 years down the road it'll be worth the investment of you keep the miles low.

I really like the clean looks of a notch back with zero aftermarket body add ons. Fun little cars, even more fun with a tko500 and a few rear axle mods, the tremec will take a ton of abuse, so will the 8.8 with a few mods. My best friend has had the same notch back for 20 years now, we had a lot of fun in that car. Currently it has a little pro flow injected 347/tremec with a road race type suspension setup.
