Sounds very similair to my boat. I have a 16' Checkmate With a 115 Suzuki that has the carbs and intake from a 140. Fun boat but not fast by these guys standards. Mine has run 58mph with a 22 pitch Turbo prop with a hydraulic jackplate. This was with me and a buddy, dog (Lab mix), and full cooler. I like those old Bajas. Does this one have a pad or no? I would expect mid to upper 50's with that combo or maybe more if it is actually putting out 135 at the prop. Prop rated HP or crankshaft?

Check for rot in the core, floor, and transom, check compression and leakdown. I have a restored 16 Baja, one year newer, similar power. It's a fun little boat, can run 50 and pull skiiers or go faster with less punch. I usually prop it for skiing.
