    15" Mercury 300 XS ??

Does anyone know if Mercury has plans to offer a 15" 300 XS anytime soon? I am considering to convert my 20" 300 xs to a 15" or to purchase a 15" 300 xs (with or without powerhead) with 1.62 sportmaster gearcase. I have seen 1 manufacturer that offers a 15" mid section but I understand it will not work with the stock 300 xs clamp bracket assembly. Not sure what options are available in the way of a 15" package to convert both the mid section AND clamp bracket that would still work with the stock pan, skirt and cowl?.... and also a 15" 3 litre sportmaster offering? Any information would be appreciated.

Adam Mckeon and motorheadbishop both have done 15" 300xs. They use mad efi mids which requires you to use a 15" 280 ROS clamp and a 2.5 sporty.

I'm sure marty powel can shorten your 300xs mid and retain your stock sporty and clamp.

I would give Adam Mckeon a call first. He makes a more secure 15" setup.

    .................................................................................................... ................

I had my 300xs's cut to 15" by Michael Chapman. Still using stock clamp bracket!

To answer your question, NO. Mercury will more than likely never change the 300. Take the above advice and check out some of the stuff that has already done up by a few guys.

Marty Powell does great work. He did a custom mid for my buddies 150 opti with the stock 3 ram clamp. He wasn't able to get it down to 15" though he was only able to get it to 16.5

Paul and the boys @ Top Gun have done several and know the little F'n around that has to be done too get her done . Besides I think Paul bought most or all of the Taylor stuff that was available at the time.
Always love going to Top Gun to get up to date with thier latest developments and all the gossip . Not too mention the boat porn that is in the yard and shop.

I personally will never run a cutdown mid ever again. I had my 15" 3L come apart. I redid my setup completely when this happened. I now have a 15" Taylor mid (X style) with a 280ros trim clamp and my sporty is a 3L that has been cut. I used to have a 300 prom ax but now have a XS powerhead. I use a 300X cowling and pan also. If you have any questions I'd be more than happy to answer them, and I got all my advice from Adam Mckeon.
