Device to Track Start and End Point?
Might need to move this thread to the Electronics, but thought I would start here.
This might be a very basic question, so please forgive my lack of knowledge on these, but figure the great folks on here can point me in the right direction.
Is there such a device that can track time between two points as I test in the boat?
I have my buoys and track laid out for my 1320 feet for the 1/4 mile. Planning on running DSRA this year and need to test, and need to know the differences in each tweak or prop I change. I want to see how if any the time changes. (totally understand a lot of it is driver consistency, but still need to test the changes to see how affects the boat.)
Is there some tool, gauge, GPS device that I can use in the boat that I don't have to start and stop, (because I am concentrating on driving and need an accurate start and stop) that would measure the time it took from point A to point B?
Just looking for a better way to track vs my buddy with a stop watch at the finish buoy while testing.
thanks for the help!!

There's smartphone apps that will read 1/4 mile speed and et. Probably not the most accurate but as long as they're consistent you'll know if what you tried worked or not.

Racepak is a good data logger for et, mph and other engine data.

If anyone comes up with a decent smartphone app please post it. Would be fun to just play around with.
I only found one doing a quick search and it gets poor reviews:

We use this one it starts automatically when you hit the gas and you can select the length of the track 1/8 , 1/4 , even 800' plus more and does data logging.
