    Merc 65X on C/L - anyone know what this might really be?

    The hull (without the added crap) looks a lot like one of Gary Pugh pro hydros. Does it have a propeller cut in one of the rear bulkheads? If so, its a Pugh. That would have a low transom for a PRO class motor, hence the abortion, as T2x pointed out. Hard to say if there is a real 650/700xs motor under the covers.

    Who knows what's under the hood???
    Both 650XS and 650X/700X were 3-cylinder 3-carb and had aluminum flywheels.
    The 650XS had a stock F-N-R gearcase while the 650X/700X had a small speedmaster (forward only).
    The tower housing and lower unit in your pictures look nothing like what was used on these engines.
    Merc never made a 700XS.
