I have the Lifeline sport vest, or whatever they call their basic non-race jacket. It was about $360.
If you want to discuss the differences, I mentioned a few. The weight of the nylon fabric, the one-piece nature of the material beneath it, the heavy-duty zipper, the leg straps, and the certification.
Jackets that aren't marketed for impact protection and flotation in a high-speed crash are not even worthy of this discussion.
Hanging a dry empty jacket from a string and striking it with an object at 100 mph in a laboratory, then marketing it as "100 mph tested" is VERY misleading. Look at how people throw the term around as if they believe it will protect a human body at those speeds. It's borderline false advertising.'89 Hydrostream Vegas XT, '90 Merc 2.4 Bridgeport PCU EFI

I agree with pyro. Its only goona be accurate if you ride with some one at a 100 and jump out with each vest on I'm just kidding. I'm with you. My life is worth a million dollars. But I don't own a million dollar vest. My mustang work's just fine for the boating I do. If I raced I would buy a raceing vest. Looking forward to the results.
Thanks Chris for diging into this for us.

I've needed my "race" lifeline twice. I'll never wear anything else.

I understand the passion about safety. Been boating all my life and was running my dads boat over 70 when I was 9 years old. Ive watched my friend die blowing over with out a jacket on and he wasnt found till the next day. Ive also witnesses many other very bad crashes in this sport we all love. Ive owned two life lines and raced boats with them and all the proper safety gear. Ive simply stated facts about what ive personaly seen with lesser jackets and that they are better than nothing wich is what I see a LOT of on this and other hi perf boating sites pictures and at the many gatherings ive attended through the years and stated my friend Joe crashed hard with a Stearns jacket and so I think the idea that they are worthless is rediculous when one saved our friends life in a hi speed crash..... Of course life line is the best jacket on the market nobody is debating that..Mr Demeanor started a thread asking a particular question wich I and others answered then the drama starts....By the way Chicken I love that pic of your STV.

So who is volunteering for my testing dummy? If nobody volunteers the board may have to nominate someone.

That pic is a nuisance HOTSHOT we have been trying to get the camera to do it since not sure why it blurred the background and havent been able to since that day we think it had something to do with the fog
as far as jackets go I caught the last day of the promotion lifeline did for snf and got ours for 450.00 a pt I believe it hurt the pocket but I think they are worth it I wish everyone could get one it tough to afford I understand and as for Chris being a chit starter ...well thats probably why I like him so much I think we have something in common lol
Well any how we love everyone we have met since my wife and I got into this 3 1/2 years ago I've always had boats but got into fast ones with the stream and bought the STV this year and hope to never go with out a fast boat again hope to see ya at the suwannee take care all and put some kind of jacket on please

Have you loked in the jet ski/ competetive skiing world? I don't deal with either but thought they may have some options. And those would be ones where you expect to "test" the jacket and get it wet constantly. That is another aspect of a recreational jacket I would like to see. Durability to repetitive contact with water. Take friends or family to the beach and they may use it as a flotatio before you tell them to take it off.

I read that life line isn't coast guard approved? even though as we know that doesn't matter when life and limb is at stake and we all know there products are superior in most every way to most of the coast guard approved jackets why are they not? Just curious as to why they wouldn't be?

Because the USCG requirements are dictated by bureaucrats, rather than experience, engineering, design, and demand. Manufacturers have to pay for testing and certification. Since Lifeline was never marketed as a general-purpose PFD, and some of their products may not fit the criteria to begin with, I would imagine they never pursued USCG certification in the first place, even if some products meet or exceed the guidelines.
Its like "USDA Organic", a set of criteria by which food producers must pay the government, otherwise they can't label it as "organic." You can buy produce from a local farm and get better foods, even of its not certified.'89 Hydrostream Vegas XT, '90 Merc 2.4 Bridgeport PCU EFI
