I would think a helmet would float pretty well keeping the head above water

Helmets are the next item to review due to the fact that they are only designed for riding a motorbike and the test is dropping a steel ball on one.
I wonder what a purpose built one for a boat would look like?

Lets not get too carried away, how about one thing at a time? Lets find a vest that will roll us over and keep us face up in the water first

I was broke as a joke when I ordered 2 new 170 Comp Vests from Lifeline. As mentioned earlier, it's hard are to justify being cheap on what could be the most important part of your rig.

I don't find them the least bit uncomfortable and feel naked without one on. My BIGGEST fear is being responsible for hurting someone else. Nobody sits in my boat with out having that lifeline tied up tight.
Wear one or don't... but don't try to justify saving $200-$400 when the value of your life or worse, someone elses is at stake.
    my 2 cents

Very important, I was unconscious when I went into the water and the lifeline race vest did it's job. That was the end of my accident, the beginning was bad. I hit the boat before going into the water. My vest had impact plates inserted by lifeline and I was wearing a full Kevlar cut suit. But still dislocated my left leg, broke my hip, pelvis, three vertebrata. three ribs, both collar bones, collapsed my left lung, and broke my right leg severing the artery and nerves and had to have the leg amputated. My case is not the norm but there are a few us who can tell you by experience prepare for the worst.

Agree... it's easy to get very comfortable running these boats 80, 90, 100+... You really can't be over protected with safety gear, any of these boats can hurt bad!

I only know what I've been told, because I have no memory of the accident or the day four days after. Yes, blow over. The bow went straight up to the sky, came down on the stern and whipped me into the dash and deck. My helmet saved my head but I still had a major concussion and broken tooth.

I added leg straps to my Mustang and am very happy with the results. 1.5" nylon webbing threaded through the bottom loops of the Mustang with 1" webbing for the leg loops. Straps came from Strapworks and were less than $10.
