Question Recreational High Speed Life Jackets

Theres a discussion on FB about high speed life jackets and some were mentioned that I didn't even know existed. Got me thinking a write up on what recreational jackets are available and a comparison would be very cool. Maybe I could get the manufacturers to each send me a jacket for a comparison. I could do it under my business and wouldn't mind if I had to secure the jackets with a deposit until returned.

The jackets I know of rated for high speed boating are:

    LifeLine
    Security Race Products
    Mustang Survival

If there are other manufacturers please let me know and what you would want compared.

If there is interest I will contact them and see what can be done.

I am very interested. I am planning on getting a quality jacket but have to save a while to get a lifeline. Other options would be great to see, especially a comparison between our options.

Mr D Mustang Survival makes an Accel 100 fishing vest that I have tried. Good to 100 mph according to them. I have an offshore survival cold water Bomber Jacket that I use Tuna fishin and love it. Their equipment is top of line IMO. Thanks for taking on this project as I know it will help a lot of S&F members with an important purchase! Gary

I have the Mustang Survival. My only complaint which is a big one is that it doesnt have leg straps.

I have looked at the Mustang one and I like it also, and like you, I also wish it had the leg straps.

EuroMuscle who used to come to a lot of our events had one with leg straps. He took it to a local canvas shop and had them added.

In my opinion a high speed life jacket recreational, or full race needs to have leg straps to be in the running.

I wonder if the addition of the straps would compromise the integrity of the jacket or void any warranty Mustang offers. Maybe Mustang will sew some straps on for us, I guess it wouldn't hurt to ask.

I just used the customization form on Mustang Survival's site and inquired about the addition of the leg straps on the MV5600 SAR. They have an SO version that is all black but if my one legged a$$ is floating out there in the water I want them to see me and double so if it is night time. LoL

I wish people would stop acting like this Mustang crap can compare to a real jacket.

Mustang builds some of the finest survival equipment you can buy. Im not saying this jacket is the best option for a high speed crash but I wouldnt call it crap either. If they had leg straps I would say its a very nice option for the recreational go fast boater. Its also a nice option to be used as a on board jacket for the occasional guest and being USCG approved can serve as your legal requirement to have one on board.

The other side of the coin is the best life jacket is the one you will actually wear and frankly many are not going to spend the money on a LIfeLine, SRP, etc. Agree or disagree with that budget, I think they have their place in the market.

Mr D I fill out a custom order question form to have leg straps added to a Mustang MV4620 Accel 100 vest as I think this may be the model some of the "slower drivers" like myself would consider. Will keep you posted. Gary
