    omc tilt & trim motor

I have a -91 Evinrude 150 xp v-6 that has a tilt and trim unit with a 2-wire electric motor. It is not the original unit of this engine. the electric motor stopped working, eaven if i feed it directly from battery. What year engines used the 2-wire setup? Will a 3-wire setup fit physically? Just so i know what part to order.
    Thanks in advance.

The last year for the 3-wire motor was 1981. OMC changed to the 2-wire motor mid-year and they've been 2 wire ever since. A 3 wire motor may fit and work, but it requires a special solenoid control box (NLA) which is pretty large-fits under the rear splashwell of the boat and wires direct to the battery. A rather clunky old system. I'd stick with a 2-wire replacement motor in order to use the newer dual trim relay control box that mounts at the back of the engine, under the cowling.

I have had mine stop working a couple times and took it apart and it was all rusty. I was able to clean it up, put it back to gether and it worked. It may be worth a try. Its hard to get the brushes to stay while putting the winding back in. I used paper clips to hold the brushes from attracting to the magnet. I have the same 91 xp150.

Thanks for the replys. I'll try taking it apart. At least nothing to loose...
