Setback for Baja 15SS
Motor is "nine-paged" '76 135. I have access to a 6" T&H bracket. Is that too much? Cable steering problems?
On another note. Inherited a Ron Hill 30P chopper with the motor. Purty sure that's way too tall. (With a stock crank rated '83 140 on the transom high as it could go, it'd spin 6K or so with my 13 3/4 X 24 OMC SRX.) Question is: How much pitch can be knocked outa a prop? Or should I even bother?

the prop ----not that much. sell it and get a differnt one. the early omc props had the cupping added to the pitch. thus a 24 could be really a 22.
i would try the 6" set back.look into raising the motor a little more [ do get a water pressure guage and watch it].

Thanks for the input. Ya I'll probly sell the prop. (Ron Hill #48-78800A4-30P) Hate to part with somethin as purty but don't foresee any use for it.
The SRX in question was 23p when I got it. Had Burris in Cape Coral whack another inch in & shine it up a lil. It was a freakin work of art when I got it back. Gained 1.9 mph top end vs a 13 1/2 X 22 Lightspeed. So sharp it'd take a Manatee's head clean off ... I have since nicked it. Sigh ...'71 Glastron V153 - Composite rebuild - Unceremoniously wrecked

I have a slightly bigger (16') Baja with a 115 HO Etec. A 23 SRX ran about the same speed as a 24 Raker. I got a few mph more with a 26 small ear chopper and a 27 Hill Hoss copy. The Hoss copy was a sweet prop, just too much pitch (5100 rpm max). The small ear didn't plane well, but the Hill just rolled onto a plane.
If it was me, I'd buy a 26 small ear and have it re-hubbed. Then if still on the limiter, go bigger.

Thanks. What kinda set-back and/or motor height? And what speed?

Try the 6" bracket as you have it. I've got 4" on mine, but the Etec is heavy. A bit less boat than mine, probably more power, should be mid 60's, ie a bit faster than mine was with the big props.
