I run the champions in my 280 and have zero problems. Without a DDT its hard to say. I would start with cleaning injectors but if its fouling all of them I doubt that's it. Could be air temp sensor or map sensor.

I think if your going to run champ, your suppose to run the QL77PP. I agree that a bad sensor (temp or map) can also cause the ECU to go to a rich condition. Definitely should get a DDT to read the sensors and check injector signals. You may want to check your fuel rail pressure too.

If you have a Merc manual it tells you how to check the sensors, TPS sensor, etc.

I have a 2000/280/2.5L. I'm sorry champion plugs are for lawn mowers. Not for Mercs. I have run them both. NGK far superior. The key to avoid fouling is proper fuel mixing, fuel curve and reduced idle time in my opinion. I have had great success with Pennzoil full synthetic at 40:1. Buy a DDT!!!! You will not be sorry. I found mine on this site years ago for $600 dollars. When my engine starts to mess up I hook up the DDT and it tells me which cylinder is miss firing. No guess work. Replace the individually plug and move on. The DDT has been an out of pocket life saver. 80 to 100 bucks at the dealer just to hookup if they even know what a 280 is. been there. ps. These motors are setup rich from the factory and by using the DDT I set the fuel curve 1 below stock. In our case -1. Cheers Dave
