Found an old outboard behind the shed .... What is it ?

Found a Elgin 7.5 horse tiller motor behind the shed while cleaning the yard ... Also found a manual trolling motor that was called a Man U troll which was made in Jax fl thought it was cool and actually remember using the trolling motor as a kid with my grandpa it actually worked pretty good ... Anybody familiar with either of these motors ? I'm definitely gonna keep the trolling motor but what's up with the Elgin ? Junk ? Or not ? Was thinkn about makin yard art out of it or something just didnt want to ruin a good motor if it was cool ... It's actually in pretty good shape it seems .... Any info would b appreciated ...

I had an old 1953 7.5 on a little 8 ft hydroplane when I was younger. Made and distributed by Sears I think. Sucker still runs good too. Not worth much, but still fun!

Elgins were sold by Sears, but were just Scott Attwaters, later branded just Scott.

Yep! My dads cousin worked at Sears (back the 60's). He bought then a new a 15 footer for his daughter. 45 HP back end. One those old cool.."art deco", turquoise blue hood, and top the boat. I learned to water ski at 12 behind it! Great little motor ya found. And speaking of a "out in the garbage" find. People know me always looking anything old OB's. Got a call about some renters moved out in town and a old small Merc out there for garbage P/U. Checked it out and DAMN, a COMPLETE KG7! Grabbed it and home checked it out. Everything worked fine, just no spark one CYL. Parted it out and made over $400. Now "thats "American Picking!"

I have been a AOMCI member for quite a while--- have about 30odd motors hangin in my workshop from 1922 to about mid 70s. I have been trying to find one of each model I had growing up which were quite a few. Definately brings back good memorys and helps my mental health! Gary

Norris i thought the Elgin Brand was made for Sears primarily by West Bend from 1946/1959 and then Scott Atwater later (Scott McCulloch) 1959/1963. I have a 1951 6 HP that I have been messing with a little at the time and it is clearly a West Bend motor. http://www.elginoutboards.org/elgin1955to59.htm
