STV Transom cut down and replacement
The Boat - 1986 STV Pro Comp low deck sprint bottom.
Like every other boating related project I start this one is no different. They just seem to grow exponentially.
My original plan was to cut my transom down so I could run my 15" mid without adding more setback).
The very first bit of cutting revealed a previous "repair". Further investigation found more rot in the knees...... and stringers...
Everything's coming out transom ,knees, stringers, floor.
On the bright side when it's back together it'll be lighter, stiffer, and immune to rot. Let the itching begin. PeteLast edited by petehubbell; 09-22-2014 at 09:31 PM.

cool project pete. my son just re did his new to him boat and he did it all composite, stringers, bulkheads and floor so no wood left in there. he figures he cut about 3-400 lbs as all the foam was waterlogged too. if you're interested, i'll send you a couple links to the products he used and/or pics of his work. although his project isn't a stream, he sold his v-king to get this boat, he still has a vector ready for a full resto in the future......probably his kids boat way down the road....again, very cool project.

Pete, I cut down my River Rocket a few yrs back. If you search you should be able find thread showing it.
Here's a trick for laying up the cap that you may not know.
I use a glass storm door for a mold to lay up my flat pieces. Wax like a standard mold, gel, material, resin etc. Let kick, pry off door and your done and ready to trim.
Done properly you'll have a perfect mirror finished deck/transom cap ready to tab in.
Cool project, have fun!I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.
I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.

here ya go pete. first is preforms, stringers bulkhead hull stiffeners etc. if you contact them, talk with charolette greaves and feel free to drop my name, mike conway from rochester ny. i've worked with her for my son's project, which btw, i posted a pic here. that's the v-king w/150 black max he sold for his new toy. my buddy has it now still goin' strong. second is for airex pxc board, aka coosa board that he used for the new floor.

Thanks for the link Catman, I've used the Coosa before.
I'm very much a novice but I found it easy to shape and cut (real itchy though). Petehttp://www.screamandfly.com/showthre...interior-re-do

The exploratory surgery continues.
I've removed transom down to the outer skin. (Needs clean-up)
The original knees and the added knees are gone. (Needs clean-up)
About half of the stringers are out now.
Once I've removed the rest of the stringers I'll begin grinding down whats left of the old rough glass. Then I'll prep the surface(s) for the new transom, knees and stringers.

Pete make sure you build a jig for the hull before you put it all back together. Flat, level, straight and ideally bolted to the floor.
I pulled an inch and a half of twist out of my Vector once I had the stringers out. I believe thats one of the reasons that boat handled so well.I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.

sheet of glass is great if you have one but 3/4 thick Meltica board with one or two shiny surface's will do the same job !! 4 wax's and a real fine pva spray and will pop off easy as with a shiny surface !! and you can use the Meltica board any time for other things as well !!
Messing round with boats is fun !! the learning never stops ,even after more than 30 years there's always something new happening somewhere ! BUT somethings never change and some problems never go away and just keep reoccurring !!so moved into Composite Forensics , Now that something completely new !!
