Exactly my experience regarding the setback and where you put the battery, trim pump and oil tank... but I am no expert, this is my first Allison. The 200xs Optimax is about 45lbs heavier than the 2.5efi Offshore. It is a great motor for getting to know the boat and for virtually everything - great bottom end and very fuel efficient - except for extreme high speed since it does not rev as a 2.5efi.
As fuel economy goes - 6 gallons per hour at 60mph gets you a long way!
As for speed I am at 97.7mph working to get triple digits - the boat is rock solid at all speeds, see clip:

All kidding aside the OP got banged up pretty good when he hooked this boat and I hope he is doing well.

Not toys that for sure hook, blow over, tunnels and Vee hulls in this performance category can get ya hurt no matter what motor or whos driving. Its all relative to how much thought you put into the setup. I wouldn't hesitate to put a 300xs on my GS but I would do everything i could to keep things the same CG. Also would want a ratcheting gearcase for sure. I know Heralls and some other guys run stock fat shaft gearsets with there 250xs but thats me. Theres lots of examples of big motors on small boats. Not that i would consider a 20ft boat small for a 300 but becouse of its design to run the lowest hp with speed some modification would need to be done to run safer. Pad work,CG alterations, fuel Tank relocated 3 inches forward, Battery placement, less setback, Side steer to more center steer, Prop choice ect... i know Darris and Bill having talked to them about this say no because 99% of the people who put on this motor wont do all the things to make the hull work against what it was designed around. Any thing will work if enough thought and time is but into it. What you get is a well built boat not as efficient as factory but never the less a high performance boat capable of great speed that has no wood to rot thats easier on fuel and better for skiing. The loss of efficiency is made up buy the torque of the 250 or 300xs or what ever floats your boat. It would still be a 100mph boat.
