Thanks, it will take some healing time. I would never say the Viper couldn't hook, but I think it'd be much harder to do than in a Allison.

Ha... like a comfortable old shirt. I driven it a couple times in the past month or so, always puts a grin on my face.

Ive always admired the lines of all the allison models as well as the build quality. I also respect those who race them for the skills. However I have seen many allisons hook and for that reason Im out Ill stick with an action/stream or a tunnel.

Glad to hear you are for the most part ok.I had the seat bolts come out on me at 95gps with a buddy in our old GS.I ended up needing Mumford surgery on my shoulder.I called Allison the next week and asked about the way the seat mounts. They said there was a better one now but there was no real reason they changed.None the less I was WFO when my seat moved and foot came off the throttle.Took the boat out a few times after and just didn't have the urge to hang it out any more.

Glad you're ok. I did the same thing in the GS that I used to own. It was early on when I didn't have a lot of seat time in it. It wasn't my first Alli but it's a bit different from the others. What I learned is that you can't kite the boat and expect to get away with it every time. I got away a few times, then it bit me. These boats are touchy but I don't believe it has anything to do with motor weight or a ratcheting gearcase. Bottom line is don't over trim.

I was slowing down after a 99mph pass, it happened around 75-80. I believe the drag of the prop and me letting throttle out too quick caused it, dropping bow down too soon at a still high rate of speed.

Glad your ok, not familiar with Allison's but from what I understand non ratcheting case is a no no. Even getting out of it quickly can be an issue with a ratcheting case.

What about uncontrollable events. Loss of ignition, fuel starve, blown motor. I don't think you can ease out of something like that. I would imagine a ratcheting gear case would be nice for unpredictable events.

Yes they are. Ive windowed many mototrs and had fuel pumps go etc that caused the engine to shut off instantly. They click like hell coming down off speed and plane down but its easy to drive with one in that event.

I'd hope someone would take my keys if I even mentioned taking this boat out again without a ratcheting gcase!

I've seen Allison's do the same thing with ratcheting Gearcase. The boats are prone tho it when the throttle is chopped.

Agree, didn't chop the throttle, but obviously brought it down too soon with this case. Otherwise, boat felt very similar to the 225 Promax regarding handling.

They will hook even with a ratcheting case. More so the problem than the extra weight above the axis of the boat is the need to run larger pitch props with more blade area to keep the bigger rev limited motors off the limiter, which in turn lift the stern more while getting off the pedal. What you had despite the non ratcheting case, was a learning experience.

In spite of all the ballyhoo of 100 mph Vipers by the experts on the board, they will tell you well in advance if you are paying attention that you are fu*king up.

I've always felt very comfortable in my Viper, maybe too much. Drives straight and flat... Just to be clear, no expert here.
