before i waste my time trying, is there any interest in dual ride guide steering?
my viper in the pic below has it. the right hand cable is smooth as butter but the left cable is a little stiff. not frozen, but stiff. i'm thinking of just sucking it and getting a modern teleflex pro rack dual setup and be done with it, (hydraulic maybe later if i ever throw a v6 on this thing).
anyhow, before i throw the dual ride guide in the dumpster, i want to find out if there is even a market for these things, even of it's only worth a few bucks?

There are people here from time to time looking for components. Don't toss it, sell it.

Plenty of guys looking for OEM Ride Guide stuff for resto jobs and the like. I run a teleflex dual helm with UFlex cables (rack on individual cables) in an opposed configuration and love it. To each his own on the cable / hydraulic discussion. I like the feedback that cables provide, which is especially helpful while learning to drive a particular boat. Just my .02.

I agree with Sonic, hydraulic is nice but on that Viper I would prefer a good ride guide any day!

Clean the cable up.
I made up a tube that covered the steering head end of the cable.
Then filled it with a solvent cleaner, then added an air line. then hang it from this end with the pressure on it.
Work the cable in and out from the motor end.
Eventually the solvent gets through and takes all the mess out with it.
Once it is all clean and smooth, run a nice thin oil through it. I used ATF and was so smooth for many years after that.

happy to sell it to you.
it's complete and working, including:
1) original steering wheel
2) two racks and all the bushings for stacking them on the double length pinion (bushings all in good shape)
3) helm, black with (afaict original) paint in good shape with no nicks or dents
4) two cables the right length for a side steer viper: 13 feet for the driver's side and 15 feet for the passenger's side. it's the longer cable that is stiff, (but not stuck). if you have or know how to make that cable luber thing, you might be able to save it.
the wheel is the three spoke brushed stainless with faux wood rim it looks like this, except the rim was painted by the previous owner to match the body color of my viper:

the only thing that jams them up is people greasing the cable via the fitting. ( or no seal on the end and from the tube they dip hence water gets in a lays there I used to fit the OMC seal nut on the tilt tube and they really sealed.)
Put gear oil in via the fitting and they will last forever.
IMHO in a single, twin cable is the only way to go
