Tamco paint products. anyone use tit?

Paint is the cheapest part of painting the boat, the money is in the body work and prep. Why would you want to use some unknown cheap crap over good body work? JMO, of course...

If it costs the same then why even bother using it over Imron or Awlgrip? Both of which are proven and known durable marine paints.

What kind of Imron would you recomend? Im told to go with a polyurethane. And see some 500s for about $175 gal. ...

500s is real good and durable stuff. It is not made to be buffed, so the painter must be able to shoot a good finish using it. My method is to put on 3 coats of paint, let cure overnight and then finish out with one carefully applied coat of thinned paint. Just doing one finish layer lets you see the final result as it goes on. Less orange peel and dirt.

I went ahead and got the Tamco brand. 2 gallons of clear Duraflint ll with all the reducer and hardner. 1 gallon of black primer with the reducer.

I will be doing a base coat clear coat with added pigment into the clear.

I have some I'm going to be trying soon. I've talked with the guys at Tamco (not far from me), and from talking to them and videos I've seen they have great durability. I'm going to use large glitterflake in their clear over an epoxy primer and a 2-part polyuerethane basecoat. I went with the Duraflint I because they say you can't buff the Duraflint II. I want to be able to blend and buff if repairs are necessary.

I got the Duraflint ll for $100 less per gallon than what is normally advirtised.

They sure are knolagable when talking to them. Arnt they?

Put 4 coats of chameleon pearl pigment coats and 1 clear of the Tamco Duraflint 2 on the Stream. Im very impressed with thelis stuff so far.

That looks great! It looks like you have a little wet sanding/buffing to do, but can't say I'm better at avoiding the occasional run. Must feel good to be getting done. Nice work and like the color.

Yep some 2000 and some power buffing should sweetn it up some. Im a first timmer at all this stuff anyway so its all new to me.

The basecoat is black with 4 coats of clear with COPPERHEAD FIRE chameleon pears added into it then a coat of pure clear again. Full resto thread over in the fiberglass discussion of this site 1979 Viking
