You should be running well into the 7s if you're running 140+ in the 1/4. All the guys out here running Unblown Fuel Jet (UBFJ) are running low 7s and staying under 145 - dumping their popoffs before the beams a lot of times to stay under the mph limit of 145. Their motor combos are typically around 550ci, 1,300-1,500hp all motor, plus LOTS of nitrous! Their motors are BIG $$$!!! They're running TPR Stealths, Cheyennes and Daytonas. They haul the mail, and they're very consistent! They make up the majority of the boats in the new 6.0/Quick Eliminator class.

Sorry Alby, Tinker Toy's best run would've not even come close to what these jets are running nowadays. I've been at Lake Ming and seen them run low 7s/high 6s WITH a 145mph speed limit! Tinker Toy never ran lower than a 7.5 something to my knowledge.

Technology has not even been fully tapped yet on the outboards because it cost tons of money, time, If someone was to follow in tinker toys foot prints with unlimited funds I am sure they could do better . No disrespect towards Jon wright and what he accomplished but he had to work on a Budget. Now make it a unlimited funded project with about ten of the top mad scientist and I am sure they could make a little outboard wax a lot of the squirt boats no disrespect to the squirt boats either

They make new big blocks everyday , but no one has made their own two-stroke yet that is big cubes, 2.5 blower project ran out of time and funds along with turbo project . Let's face it the two stroke technology on the 2.5's will never be fully tapped .how many would want to spend 100+K on a outboard rite. How much is spent on 1500 hp big block ?

I'm 100% with you Dago! I'm not trying to create arguments on your thread - just posting facts! I also love all different boats. I own an outboard and an inboard, and I crew for my buddy with a KRR. And I have a couple close friends with drag boats. I appreciate all go-fast boats!!!

I do think the jets are cool and I've ran a couple of badazz ones at rally's. I stated a 1300 hp jet wouldn't have many rivals at all from an outboard(less than 5 in the country that I can think of) and the jet owner posted next saying there was no outboard anywhere that could run with him. While that may be true, I don't know, it still comes off as awfully boastful. I do know it takes a badass jet boat to beat the fastest outboards but there does come a point where they have too many ponies to contend with. Let's get real here, they're 4 times the size and forced induction. If I had to run 5 or 600" motors and a fogger to beat a 153" naturally aspirated outboard I'm not sure if thump my chest too loudly. When it comes down to it I'd be the first to admit the baddest jets are quicker and faster than the baddest outboards, no question. Most on here have never seen the top boats from each category run

Have Superman go run his boat on a set of certified clocks to see if you're correct. My buddy Tony Scarlata has run 6.85 @ 151 in the "Bling Bling" PGF - 500ci NA motor w/ NO nitrous (all on motor). Yes, he broke out of the mandated 145 top speed limit for open boats, but that RG flat is the baddest open boat (non-hydro) in the country - hand's down! My other good friend, Joe Shelfo, owns/drives "Sucker Punch" - an open Kurtis 501 - w/ a NA motor capable of running well into the 6s at 170+ if he wanted to put a heavy tune in it. Go to any of the dedicated drag boat websites and look up these driver's names or the boat names to see that they are the "real deal" - not just lake racers.
