Hey Chaz...could....
Ive had an idea to put a Hayabusa motor or similar in a boat for awhile and was looking at my boat tonight and started thinking
Why not attach it to a regular outboard drive with trim/steering/etc. ? You could even have it on a jackplate. I know it would be pretty involved but not too bad I dont think.
Anyone ever do anything like that and what would be the big challenges other than no reverse gear?
Im not ready to hack up my boat but just got me thinking when I looked at it like this....

Well your boat is still apart and your thinking about
taking it apart again.? There is a company making a
V8 "busa" engine. Pretty slick.! Im tired of boating by myself.

You would need a transmission? Those bike motors make power at high rpm. The boat needs power at low speed to plane.

Why would you waste your time with an engine that has no torque at low speed? If y you really want to do it talk to Tom Foley as he has experience with motorcycle stuff and knows how to weld and fabricate

Chris , just so happens that chaz knows a guy with a Hayabusa , that happens to know a little bit about outboards also . So if the three of y'all can get your heads rapped around it , I'm sure y'all will be able to determen if it's worth the time and trouble , plus cost to take on this project .
As a matter of fact , if Chaz has read this yet , he may have mentioned it to Gordon by now , already !
Good Luck !!!

Charley , Chris does have some back ground in messing with bikes , as a Drag Bike Racer . , as do some of the rest of us . Tom also worked with Orient Express and has a very good understanding of how these motors work . I'm not sure what kind of torque numbers one of these can make . But I am pretty sure a bunch more then a 2 cycle outboard in the right hands .
And if not , I'm sure Gordon wouldn't mind rubbin some MoJo on that little Yamaha motor Chris already has !

Exactly. I know Tom has a lot of background with motorcycles through the years and at least it will be done right. ...

They run a marinized version of the R1 motor in the yamaha waverunner...they run a gear reduction on the PTO to turn the pump at 8500 (11000 engine rpm)...the gear reduction is a torque multiplier so on a light boat you'd have no issues especially with a 2:1 gearcase. Being dry sump motors you could stand on on end and run it as an outboard I'm sure.
they use the same engine in my snowmobile. It's an efi version if the original R1 which makes about 160hp or 290 with a turbo . I know the 'busa makes more hp and torque so I think the whole thing would be awesome. Do it..'08 SRV

Just thinking and I figured Chaz was the guy to ask and maybe somebody had tried something like it. Like I said, not ready to tear mine apart...its not even back together.
