Just curious as with all steering off motor did it swivel free and not corroded swivels ? Seen it many times on locked up boats. Ya can go fast as ya want, but not being able to steer? SCARY thought!

Got a few more bubbles out of the system and took the boat to the Mississippi river yesterday after work. Hasent been started in 8 months. Smoked a lot at startup. Steering felt good. Dinged up the Trophy prop a bit on a dike and shoreline. But had a good time with the wife and another couple.

My scary steering story. For Lake of the Ozarks Shootout a few years ago I was asked the drive the Mercedes 44 MTI with twin 1550 HP Sterlings since the owner was not able to attend yet wanted his boat to run in the shootout. The engines ware just installed earlier that week. Larry Goldman was throttling and I was steering. We were testing the boat running well over 100 mph in rough water when Larry tells me to turn around. Since Larry is an offshore racer we were turning around offshore style at 100 MPH. I causally mentioned to Larry the steering felt loose (full hydraulic power steering Number Sixes) while he is asking me to turn. In the Ozarks it is a large river with a lot of boats on Shootout weekend. Not dangerous but do not want to run some one down. Well the steering is going away as we are turning because someone forgot to tighten a hose fitting and we were dumping fluid. Now I am getting a little excited and asked Larry to stop while we doing our extremely fast hook and turn like a 44' Champ boat. Amazing how hard those big cat will turn. However I was not able to make the boat stop turning with Larry giving it hard throttle in the turn. After we slowed down the steering was completely gone. Calmly we commented that could have been much worse.
