Prop selection for a Vector/225 Evinrude combo

    Hello,

I'm looking for some information/advice on selecting a new prop for my Vector. Please excuse me if my terminology is off as I'm pretty green. Here is the current setup:

    '82 Vector (freshly recored)
2004 Evinrude 225 HO (height adjusted so prop shaft is level with pad)
    3 inch set back
    28 pitch chopper

On takeoff/acceleration, the stern is dropping really low and the bow is shooting for the stars. I want to say I'm experiencing too much "slippage" and it feels as if I'm digging a hole. Once the hull "planes" out, I'm seeing 80ish at 5800rpms but it take forever to plane out.

Can anyone offer some advice on what may help the current setup and if a different prop will help fix my issue?

    Thanks in advance </SPAN>

That is a big motor on a very light boat, I would try a drag plate or "foil" planing plate that bolts on to the motors cavitation plate, there are several vendors on here that sell them. The "allison style or eagle one on here makes one that is supposed to work very well.Solid mounts are a must as well as tight dual cable steering,

27 DAH SRX worked great with Viking/ 225 Rude. 30p Cleaver might not be bad either, but you might need to run higher. Large or small ear Chopper?

Would removing the setback and bolting the motor straight to the hull improve the time it takes to plane?

Nope, not the way to go.

When you get in the gas are you holding it or trying to ease it up or feather it?

(And your description was excellent by the way)

Do you trim the motor down before take off ? Sounds like you are not getting enough trim to pop it out of the hole , soon as it pops trim it up. Can you post a few pictures from the back of the boat ?

Chopper props vent bad on take off. Like TStand said, you've got to feather the throttle and give it a chance to bite.

Very different boat, but when I added a fin (Bob's) to my XR4 many years ago, it completely transformed planning with over hub props. It went from 5500 rpm and wait forever to just rolling on a plane. Cheap and quick to try.

Actually, I don't want him to, but Choppers do run out of bite when you get even with the pad.

I have it trimmed all the way down and have tried both feathering and wot. I will post a few pics of this evening

So, I could potentially have to drop the motor down to get more bite out of the hole? Again, I will post some pics tonight.

    Thanks

Sorry Pete, guess I assumed but only made an ass out of myself lol. Feathering was always how I dealt with it. I don't like to run choppers anymore.
