They don't make vent plugs for large hub Trophy props, Marine Tex and a drill fixes that and make it easy to dial in a prop that out of the box can be hard to.

As it turns out while this engine had sat for a while, a mouse had made a nest in the lower unit that was restricting the exhaust. Dropped lower unit and pulled out all the crap and put lower unit back on then hit the water and it worked flawlessly. I read where you went through the powerhead but didn't see you mention the lower unit.
I am sitting here hesitant about posting because I fear being flamed for such a simple response but I swear it fixed me up as good as the day it was built. I hope you figure it out and that the resolution is something minor.

ive heard of wierd issues like this but unfortuneatly not that simple. this motor has been apart top to bottom lol no nests

well i took it out for a test run today. not much change if at all. i was by myself and only half my tackle so i expected a decent holeshot by that alone. pretty much i have an average holeshot.. i know its got more in it.. it just doesnt feel right. its missing that snappyness when you crack the throttle that should be there. powerloading was the same lugs and then stall when you let off. in nuetral when you snap the trottle for a quick rev it will stall when the rpms come back down. im lost at this point.

    before this run i did;
    clean tank and tank pickup
new 3/8 fittings and lines to mercury primer bulb. 5/16 line from the bulb to the pulse pump..
    new fuel filter.
    vst cleaned, float height adjusted
fuel pressure test shows 38psi key on and 40psi running. after shutoff after 60 seconds it looses about 2-3 psi

so with the fuel system condition being good front to back... what do i have left that i can check myself without needed a shop

Redo the link and sync, after getting that right adjust the tps. Have you done a compression and leak down test?

I find it best to set base timing on the water running in gear at the normal idle speed you would run. Also like to set the tps running at idle in gear.

Not saying its your issue but real easy to do the link and sync wrong. If timing was set without disconnecting the idle stabilizer or coolant sensors. Things could be way out. They say you can set the tps with an ohm meter, I have never had luck doing it that way. Have you put new plugs in it ?

think i figured it out. i was not able to do this with the engine running. when i disconnect the port temp sensor the engine wont idle. anyway with the key on engine off i was seeing .05v across the brown and blue wires. wot was 4.87v. made some adjustment and now im sitting at .27-.28v closed throttle and 7.6v WOT. idle seems smoother now as well. still seems to want to stall when i snap the throttle in N but i might no what that is also now

Want to set between .240 and .260 volts. What is your pick up timing set to?

im surprised at the voltage your recommending.. i was told by Don on BBC to have between .26-.28 and have read .28-.30 before as well.

i did not check the timing yet i dont have a light anymore. havent had one in years lol what is the difference in base timing and pickup timing?

Manual says that voltage mine runs great there. Pick up, idle timing the same. Must be set with idle stabilizer disconnected, find they run better close or at 0deg.

When doing cranking timing they want the idle stabilizer and ECU disconnected.
