I've never seen an all-white one before - Brian's (F14) is the closest I've seen with just the black brow/dash. What rubrail do you plan to use? I'd always wanted to see a polished stainless one like Pete did on some of the older Skaters - but I don't think stainless can make the compound curve at the back corners of the 22. I powder-coated the aluminum one on my old 22.

I was thinking of zeroing out the rub rail on this Talon. What is everyone's thoughts on this? I do not need the rub rail for fastening the deck and hull together.

Just for kicks, here is one of my race friend's boat back at my shop again for the second time this year for repairs. Bay City Michigan race was not so good to it. He hit something floating with the starboard sponson which blew that side out and let water come in and slam into the back and blew the back deck off. You can see how much we had to open the starboard side up to get in there versus what the port side looks like. The port side is going to get opened up to fix some old damage to.

Rayzor, we did this one all white with the plans to paint it. I do not know of anyone on the East coast who does the fancy gel coat jobs like the ones that come out of the West coast. We can do simple lines and a few colors in gel, but I do not have much experience in multiple colors and designs in gel.

When you say "zeroing out" I'm not sure I understand. It looks like you are going to cap the deck to the hull 100% on this specific 22 build. That is impressive and time consuming. If that is what the customer wants then why would he want a rub rail? Now, I like a rub rail but that is just me. Maybe you could do something very narrow that would still offer some protection.

Sorry, when I said zeroing the rub rail I meant to eliminate it. If we do it, you would not be able to see the joint between the deck and the hull. Yes, it is a ton of work. This is what we do with the smaller tunnel race boats. T

The owner of this boat is leaving it up to us on what to do. I like both ways, but I have always wanted to see what one without one would look like. I would be happy with the old 1" aluminum style like all of them use to have back in the day. Just fishing for thoughts.

What is most intriguing to me is that my 1990 Talon had a "shoebox" fit deck/hull joint - not a "butt" fit as the white one just built. You can see that the deck overlaps the hull in the first two pictures before the rubrail was installed. I wasn't going to "cap" my 23MTR, but once the deck was on the hull, I couldn't resist having it done. The no-rubrail look is just so custom and contemporary looking, it was worth the additional $5k that Dory charged me to do it.

A few more pics of the "cap" job on my 23MTR. I think the Talon is a MUCH prettier boat than the MTR, but the color/graphic/cap-job made the my MTR look very modern and good looking imo. If you were to cap the 22 and come up with a graphic/colors to accentuate the great lines of the 22, it will be off-the-charts!

That is the look I like! I agree, I think the Talon can look good like that also.

The Revo is Jim Robb's. It has been a basket case, as have been all of the 4 Revo's I have ever repaired. We finally decided to do major surgery on it this time. I have 3 of them at the shop now and this one is not the worst of them. This is one reason we have been a little slow on the Talon's. Gotta keep those racers running.

I like the idea of "capping" the deck to the hull looks wise but I never thought that you could actually use it that way without always worrying about a nick here or there. I'd like to see the Talon capped but then see if a very narrow rub rail could be installed also. Maybe there is some type of new high tech material that is out there that could be used. I'm just thinking out load as your work aerotech is pretty amazing.

You can always go with a 1/2 cap on the boat. This gives you the clean look up front and on the stern, but has a usable rub rail along the sides. DCB and others have this as an option (full cap, 1/2 cap or no cap).

    Great looking boat!
